Cooktops and rangetops in the ZLINE line
ZLINE sells two styles of built-in cooking top. A cooktop drops into the counter and sits nearly flush. ZLINE makes gas cooktops in 30 and 36 inch sizes and induction cooktops from 24 to 36 inches. A rangetop is deeper and has knobs on the front face. Gas rangetops come in 30, 36 and 48 inches across the Classic, Legacy and Paramount series. Paramount also has induction rangetops.
The Autograph Edition adds gold, bronze or black accents. The working parts are the same, so the repairs are too. Read about the brand on our ZLINE appliance repair page.
Gas burner faults we see most
ZLINE burners relight on their own if the flame goes out. A sensor at each burner fires the spark again. When the top clicks and clicks with a flame already lit, the spark system thinks the flame is gone. Grease on the electrode or water in a knob switch can fool it.
We clean the electrode tip and test each switch. If the ceramic around a ZLINE electrode is cracked, the spark lands in the wrong place. The burner then lights late with a small puff. A new electrode fixes it.
A flame that will not turn up has a different cause. It may be a blocked burner jet or a gas valve that is stiff. Brass burners hold heat well but still need clean ports. If the top was switched to propane, the wrong jets may be in place. ZLINE ships gas units with a propane kit, and the swap must be done right.
Induction cooktop trouble
ZLINE induction tops have a matte glass made to resist scratches. Below the glass are coils, sensors and a power board. The top checks for a pan before it sends power. If it cannot find one, the zone blinks and shuts off. The wrong pan is the usual reason. A failed pan sensor is the next.
Some models can bridge two zones into one long zone. If the bridge will not link, one of the two coils is likely down. A top that trips the breaker at high power may have a shorted power board. We test the supply first, since induction needs a strong 240 volt circuit.
Knobs, grates and the porcelain surface
Rangetop knobs take a lot of heat from big pots. A knob that spins freely has a cracked insert. It is cheap to replace. The cast iron grates are heavy, and a dropped grate can chip the porcelain. A chip will not stop the burner. Still, bare steel can rust, so tell us and we can advise.
Try this before you call us
- Take off each cap and burner head. Line up the notches and set them back down.
- Clean the white electrode with a dry toothbrush.
- Wait a few hours after mopping up a spill, then test again.
- For induction, hold a fridge magnet to the pan base. It must stick.
ZLINE cooktop charges and how fast we come
Home diagnostics cost $79. Give us the okay to repair and you do not pay it. We quote a fixed total up front, parts and labor included. Most people who call in the morning see a tech that day. ZLINE cooktop calls begin at 6 AM. The last cooktop booking of the day is at 9 PM, Monday through Sunday. Booking online takes a few minutes.
A+ is family owned and independent of ZLINE. Every tech is licensed, carries insurance and clears a background check. Common spark parts ride in the truck. A 30-day repair warranty covers the cooktop repair.
Fixing or replacing a ZLINE cooktop
ZLINE prices sit in the middle of the market. So the math is closer than on a luxury brand. Electrodes, switches, knobs and valves are small repairs and worth doing. A shattered induction glass plus a failed board can come close to the price of a new top. We will lay out both numbers and let you choose.
Our techs repair ZLINE tops in Houston, Chicago and its suburbs, Los Angeles, Northern Virginia and the District. Houston owners can visit our Texas service area page. A range with an oven below is covered on ZLINE range repair. The hood above it has its own page, ZLINE range hood repair. More on burners is on our stove repair page. If your rangetop has the porcelain top, wipe up acidic spills like tomato sauce once it cools.
