We Repair All Westinghouse Appliances
Westinghouse appliances we service
We repair Westinghouse and White-Westinghouse refrigerators, freezers, ranges, wall ovens, washers, dryers and dishwashers. Most of the ones we see at homes are older machines. Some have run for decades. We also work on newer compact units that carry the Westinghouse name.
Here's the short history. White Consolidated Industries bought Westinghouse's appliance division in 1975. It sold products under the White-Westinghouse name. Electrolux bought White Consolidated in 1986. White Consolidated had also bought Frigidaire in 1979. After that, Frigidaire's top-load washers used the Westinghouse-built design. The Westinghouse name is also licensed to other makers today.
Common Westinghouse breakdowns in the home
Refrigerator not cooling. Is the freezer cold but the fridge side warm? Then frost has likely built up on the evaporator, the chilled coil hidden behind the freezer's back panel. A bad defrost heater, defrost timer or evaporator fan lets ice build up. If both sections are warm, the condenser coil may be clogged with dust. That coil sits near the bottom and sheds heat. A bad start relay on the compressor is next on the list.
Range or oven won't heat. On an electric range, a burned-out element or a failed infinite switch is common. That switch sets the burner's heat level. On a gas oven, the usual cause is a weak igniter. A tired igniter still glows, just not hot enough for the gas valve to open.
Washer won't spin or drain. A clogged drain pump, a worn lid switch or a broken belt are the usual suspects. The lid switch tells the washer it's safe to spin.
Dryer runs but stays cold. Check the heating element on electric models. On gas dryers, look at the igniter and gas valve coils. A blown thermal fuse also stops heat. It trips when the vent is clogged, so we check the vent too.
Dishwasher leaves water behind. A clogged filter or a failed drain pump is common. On older units, the door gasket may leak.
A quick real-world case: a family calls about a White-Westinghouse fridge that warms up every few days. They clear the ice from the back of the freezer and it works again for a while. That pattern almost always means a defrost problem, not a dying compressor.
How a home visit works
We try to come the same day for most Westinghouse calls, and a morning call helps. Your Westinghouse tech is licensed and insured. We background checked them before they ever entered a home.
The home diagnostic is $79. If you approve the repair, we waive it. A fixed price is agreed before any tool comes out. We install genuine OEM parts where they're still made. When a Westinghouse part has to be ordered, the tech books your return visit before leaving. Our 30-day repair warranty backs the work.
Is it worth repairing an old Westinghouse?
It depends on the part. Many older Westinghouse machines are simple and sturdy. Belts, switches, elements, igniters and pumps are often still easy to get. Those repairs are usually worth it.
The harder cases are sealed system failures on old fridges and main control failures on anything. The sealed system is the loop of compressor, coils and refrigerant. Some parts for older Westinghouse models are no longer made. If we can't find a genuine part, we'll tell you before you spend a dime. Then you can decide if a new appliance makes more sense.
