We repair Schulthess front load washers and tumble dryers for the home. That includes the Spirit line and newer models such as Stellaria, Serenity and Sublime. Stacked washer and dryer pairs are covered too.

Schulthess is one of the oldest names in laundry. The company began in Zurich in 1845 as a plumbing shop. It built its first washing machine in 1904. Its factory has been in Wolfhausen, Switzerland, since 1917. You don't see many Schulthess machines in American homes. When we do, the owner usually chose it on purpose.

What goes wrong with a Schulthess washer

Schulthess makes both the inner and outer drum from chrome steel, where many brands use plastic. So the drum itself is rarely the problem. The faults we find are in the parts around it.

• Won't drain, or ends with water in the drum. The drain filter is full of lint, hair pins or coins. If the filter looks clear, the pump itself may be jammed or burned out.
• Won't fill. A failed inlet valve or a kinked supply hose.
• Water on the floor. A torn door seal, a loose hose clamp or a leak at the detergent system.
• Loud rumble on spin. Worn drum bearings or a failed shock absorber.
• Door stays locked. The door lock or the control board holding it shut.
• Cold water washes. The heating element has scaled up or failed.

A tip for owners: open the drain filter every few months. Put a towel and a shallow pan down first, because some water will come out. It takes five minutes and saves a lot of drain calls.

Schulthess dryer faults

Schulthess dryers have an Autoclean cycle. It cleans the heat exchanger during and after drying so lint does not clog it. That keeps them running well. But if the water path fails, lint builds up fast and drying slows down.

A dryer that runs long, stops early or leaves clothes damp is our most common call. We check the lint filters, the heat exchanger, the water pump and the moisture sensors. A dryer that won't tumble often has a broken belt or a failed motor. Rinse or brush the lint filters after each load. A clogged filter lets lint slip past and coat the heat exchanger. Your Schulthess repair, step by step

First, book a visit. Same-day arrival is possible on most calls. Earlier is better. The tech runs a test cycle, finds the cause and explains it in plain words. Diagnosing it at home costs $79. That fee drops off when you approve the repair.

Next comes the number. It is a fixed price, and you see it before any work. We use genuine Schulthess parts only. These often ship from Europe. When one has to be ordered, your return date is set before we leave. Schulthess owners get a licensed, insured tech who has been background checked. The repair is covered by our warranty.

Is a Schulthess worth repairing?

Yes, when the part can be found. Schulthess builds for a long life, and the steel drums hold up well. Pumps, valves, seals, bearings and heating elements are normal repairs.

The catch is supply. Parts for a Swiss brand can take longer to reach the US. For an older model, we confirm the part and the wait before you commit. If a part is no longer made, we will say so and help you weigh a new machine.
