What makes a Schulthess different to work on
Schulthess built its first washing machine in 1904. It still builds them in Wolfhausen, Switzerland. The machines are compact, heavy and packed tight inside.
Two design points matter to a repair tech. First, Schulthess uses chrome steel for the inner drum and for the tub around it. Most brands mold the outer tub from plastic. Second, newer models inject detergent into the wash with a system named cleanJet. It replaces the simple flush of a soap drawer.
Older machines carry the Spirit name. Newer ones come from the Classic Collection and have names like Stellaria, Serenity and Sublime. We work on all of them. See our Schulthess repair page for the brand story.
Water stays in the drum
A Schulthess that ends its cycle full of water has a drain fault. Start at the drain filter. On a Schulthess it sits low on the front. Spread a towel and slide a baking pan under it. Loosen the Schulthess filter a little and wait while the drum empties. Then take the filter out and clear it.
Hair pins, coins and lint are the usual finds. If the filter is clean, the pump behind it may be jammed or burned out. The drain hose can also be pushed too far into the wall pipe, which blocks flow. We check all three.
Slow fill and soap left behind
When the drum stays dry, check the tap and the hose first. Behind a stacked Schulthess pair, the hose often gets kinked. There is a small screen where the hose meets the machine. Grit from old pipes can block it.
If water reaches the machine and still does not enter, the inlet valve has failed. It is an electric valve that opens on command. We test it with a meter and replace it if the coil is open.
On models with cleanJet, detergent that stays in the drawer or on the clothes points to that system. A blocked jet, a weak fill or a fault in the drawer can cause it. Newer drawers also use a magnet as part of a foam safety. If the drawer is not pushed fully home, the machine may refuse to start.
Use less detergent than the box says. These machines use little water, and extra soap has nowhere to go.
Noise, shaking and leaks
- Rumble on spin that gets worse each month. The drum bearings are worn.
- Knocking on spin. A shock absorber has failed and the tub swings too far.
- Drip at the door. The door seal is torn or has grit in its fold.
- Puddle at the back. A hose clamp has worked loose.
- Wet under the drawer. The detergent path is blocked and backing up.
The steel tub does not crack or warp, which helps. A bearing job on a Schulthess is real work, but the tub it goes back into is sound.
Door locked, or wash water cold
A door that stays shut after the cycle is held by its lock or by the control. If water is still inside, drain it at the filter first. Then cut power for five minutes and try again. Never pry the door.
Cold washes on a hot setting mean the heater is not working. Scale builds on the heating element in hard water. The Autoclean program helps keep the machine clean, but it will not save a scaled element.
Schulthess service with A+: price and timing
A+ is independent. It has been one family's business. We charge $79 to diagnose a Schulthess washer at a home. Once you approve our Schulthess repair quote, the $79 is removed. You are told one fixed price before work, and it holds parts and labor.
We set Schulthess washer visits for 6 AM at the earliest. The latest Schulthess visit wraps at 9 PM, weekends too. You can also book on the site. Same-day visits are common. Each Schulthess washer tech is licensed and insured and has a background check on file. Repairs come with our 30-day repair warranty.
Parts, wait times and the repair decision
We are honest about supply. Schulthess parts often come from Europe. For an older Spirit model, we confirm the part can still be bought before you commit. If it can, repair is the smart move for pumps, valves, locks, seals, shocks and heaters.
For the dryer beside it, see Schulthess dryer repair. Our washer repair page covers common brands. We fix Schulthess washers in Northern Virginia and across the river in the District. Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles owners can book as well. After any drain repair, we show you how to open the filter so you can do it yourself next time.
