We service Scotsman Prodigy ELITE and Prodigy Plus cube machines, Nugget ice machines and flake machines. We also repair Meridian ice and water dispensers, Brilliance nugget units and gourmet cube models, plus Scotsman bins. Older Prodigy units are common on our calls. We check the model plate before we plan the repair.
Scotsman dates to 1950 and is based in Vernon Hills, Illinois, just north of Chicago. It has been part of Ali Group since 2012. Scotsman calls itself the world's largest maker of commercial ice machines. It also calls its nugget ice "The Original Chewable Ice."
Prodigy cubers. Low ice output usually starts with a dirty condenser coil on air-cooled units. That coil pushes heat out of the machine. Scale on the evaporator, the cold plate where cubes form, is next. Scale makes cubes stick and slow the harvest. Harvest is when the machine releases the ice into the bin. Prodigy machines have AutoAlert lights on the front that flag trouble like a needed cleaning. Don't tape over them.
Nugget and flake machines. These use an auger, a turning screw in a cold cylinder, to push ice out. A squeal or grind points to worn bearings or a strained gear motor. Scale on the auger makes it worse. Caught early, this is a moderate repair. Ignored, it can damage the cylinder.
Meridian dispensers. These make, store and dispense in one unit. When ice stops coming out, the maker may be fine. The problem is often a jammed dispense path or a failing dispense motor. No water at the spout points to a valve or filter.
Every Scotsman model. A clogged water filter, low water pressure or a stuck water valve starves the machine. So does a float switch fouled with scale.

A failed compressor on an older head is the harder call. The same goes for a deeply pitted evaporator. If the frame is solid and the machine has been cleaned, repair can still make sense. If not, we'll lay out the cost of both options.
