Whirlpool range models and features
Whirlpool ranges come in gas and electric. You can get them freestanding, with a back panel, or slide-in, with front controls. Electric models have a glass top. Many have FlexHeat elements. Each of those has a small inner ring and a larger outer ring, so one spot fits two pan sizes. Gas models often have a SpeedHeat burner for a fast boil. Many new ranges have an Air Fry mode in the oven. Whirlpool shares its range parts with Maytag and Amana, which keeps parts easy to find.
Glass top elements that will not heat
One dead element on a glass top is the most common electric range fault. The element under the glass has burned out, or the switch behind the knob has failed. On a FlexHeat element, watch which ring glows. If the inner ring works and the outer ring stays dark, either the outer coil or the dual switch is bad. We test both. A Whirlpool element stuck at full heat on every setting has a bad switch. The hot surface light staying on for hours is a small sensor in the element. Swapping the element fixes it.
Coil top ranges
Some basic Whirlpool ranges still use plug-in coils. These are the easiest to fix. A coil that will not heat may just be loose in its socket. Push it in. Swap it with a coil of the same size from another spot. If the fault moves with the coil, the coil is bad. If it stays, the socket or switch is burned. A scorched socket must be replaced, or it will ruin the next coil.
Gas burners that click, sputter or will not light
Gas surface burners light from a spark at a small white igniter. Boil overs are the enemy. Food clogs the burner ports next to the igniter, so the spark has no gas to light. Clean the ports with a pin and wipe the igniter tip. Seat the cap flat. Clicking that never stops means a wet or failed spark switch. No spark on any burner means the spark module or the power to it. A big burner with a low, lazy flame may have a blocked orifice.
Oven faults on a range
A cold Whirlpool range oven comes down to a burned bake element on electric models or a tired igniter on gas ones. A code of F3 E0 points at the oven sensor or its wiring. Whirlpool says to reset the breaker for a minute first. We go deeper on these on our Whirlpool oven repair page. One range-only note. If the oven and the clock are both dead but the gas burners light with a match, the range has lost power. Check the outlet behind it.
Knobs, panels and small stuff
Cracked knobs, a loose door handle and a broken oven light seem minor. They still make a range hard to use. A knob that spins free has a split shaft hole. We carry common Whirlpool knobs. A touch panel that beeps by itself may have a worn membrane. That part is the panel overlay or the control behind it.
