Whirlpool makes single and double wall ovens. It also makes gas and electric ranges with an oven below the burners. This page is about the oven itself, in either form. Newer models have modes like Frozen Bake, which skips preheat for frozen pizza and the like. Many have convection fans. Some clean with high heat. Others use AquaLift, a short low-heat clean that uses water in the oven floor. The way your oven cleans matters, since high-heat cleaning is when many parts fail.
Open the door and look at the bake element. On some models you can see it at the bottom. A burn spot, a blister or a clean break means it is done. On models with a hidden element, you will not see it. You will just get an oven that heats very slowly on the broil element alone. We test the element with a meter. If it is good, we move on to the sensor, the thermal fuse and the relay on the control board. A board relay can stick open, so the element never gets power.
A Whirlpool gas oven lights with a glow bar igniter. Power flows through the igniter to the gas valve. As the igniter ages, it still glows but pulls too little current. So the Whirlpool gas valve never opens. You see a glow, hear nothing and get no flame. If the igniter glows for more than about a minute and a half with no flame, it is weak. We change it and check the flame pattern along the burner tube.
Whirlpool ovens show codes as an F number and an E number. F3 E0 is a common one. Whirlpool says it points to the oven temperature sensor, the control or the wires between them. Their first step is a reset. Switch the Whirlpool oven breaker off, wait one minute and switch it on. Watch for a minute to see if the code returns. If it does, we measure the sensor. It is a thin probe at the top rear of the oven. A sensor that drifts also causes food to burn or come out raw at the right setting.

A high-heat self clean locks the door with a motor. If the door stays locked once the oven is cold, the Whirlpool lock motor or its switch is jammed. Turn the breaker off for five minutes and try once more. Do not pry the door. If the oven is dead after a clean, the thermal fuse has likely blown. We see this the week before big holidays. Clean the oven well ahead of the day you need it.
