What SKS sells as a cooktop
SKS is the luxury kitchen brand from LG. It sells two kinds of built-in cooktop. The gas models come 30 or 36 inches wide with five brass burners. They have Ultra-High burners for a hard sear and Ultra-Low burners for a slow simmer. The knobs light up to show which burner is on. A wok grate flips over to hold a round pan. The other kind is the Flex induction cooktop, also 30 or 36 inches. Its Flex Cooking Zone links two elements into one long zone for a griddle. SKS also sells pro rangetops with front knobs. Those share parts with the ranges, so we cover them on the SKS range repair page.
Gas burner problems on an SKS cooktop
Most gas calls come down to spark or flame. A burner that ticks with no flame has a fouled igniter tip. Sauce boils over, bakes on and blocks the spark. Brass burner parts lift off for cleaning. If they go back crooked, the flame comes out lopsided or not at all. An Ultra-Low burner has very small ports. They clog with less mess than a big burner needs. If the flame lights and then dies when you let go, the flame sensor may be weak. We clean it first. We replace it only when cleaning does not work.
Sparking that will not stop
When every burner ticks with all knobs off, a switch is wet or shorted. It often starts after a spill or a heavy wipe down. Give it a few hours to dry. If the ticking goes on, we find the bad spark switch under the knob and change it. The spark module is the next suspect. We do not guess. We test each switch with a meter.
Flex induction faults
Induction needs the right pan. A magnet should grab the base. If a zone will not find a good pan, the fault is below the glass. We meter the SKS coil and the power board on that side. In Flex mode, two elements work as one. If half of the long zone heats and half does not, one coil or its driver has failed. Touch keys that ignore you are often just wet or greasy. Dry the panel and try again. A cooktop that trips the breaker needs a pro to look at it. Leave it off until then.
Things to try before the visit
- Pull the burner cap and head. Clean the ports with a soft brush, then seat them flat.
- Check that the control lock is off.
- Reset the breaker for one full minute.
- On induction, test with a cast iron pan.
- If the knob lights are dark but burners work, note it for the tech.
Our fee and how the visit runs
A+ is a family owned shop, independent of SKS. For an SKS cooktop at a house, we charge $79 to diagnose it. Approve the SKS cooktop fix and that fee is gone. We quote one fixed price, parts and labor together, and you approve it first. SKS cooktop slots start at 6 AM, the last cooktop slot is 9 PM, weekends too, and a same-day SKS visit is common. Your SKS cooktop tech is licensed, is insured and has cleared a background check. The SKS cooktop repair is under our 30-day repair warranty.
Repair is nearly always the right call
SKS cooktops are young and built into stone counters. Swapping one means matching a cutout to the inch. An igniter, switch, sensor or knob is a small job next to that. Even an induction board is worth doing on a unit this new. We would only talk about replacing after cracked glass plus a second major fault. SKS cooktop repair is offered around Houston, and our Texas page lists the areas. Chicago and Los Angeles SKS cooktop jobs are welcome, and so are SKS cooktop jobs in Northern Virginia and D.C. See our Signature Kitchen Suite repair page or SKS wall oven repair for the oven below the counter. A last note on brass burners. They darken with heat, and that is normal. Do not scrub the ports wider trying to make them shine.
