The cooktops Fisher and Paykel sells now
Fisher and Paykel builds cooktops in three looks. They are called Professional, Contemporary and Minimal. Under the look, the fuel is what matters for repair. The brand sells gas, induction, electric and Teppanyaki plates. It also sells narrow modular units you can line up side by side. Some induction models have a downdraft vent built into the glass.
The induction tops use a feature named SmartZone. It ties two zones into one so a griddle heats end to end. PowerBoost gives a short burst of high heat for a fast boil. GentleHeat holds a very low setting for melting. Each of those relies on a power board under the glass. Our Fisher and Paykel repair page lists the other products we work on.
Why a gas burner clicks but stays dark
Clicking means the spark side is trying. No flame means the gas is not reaching the spark. Most of the time the cause sits right on top. A boil-over leaves the burner cap wet or the ports clogged. The brand's own help pages say to clean and dry the burner parts first. They also say to seat each cap flat before you try again.
If clean parts do not cure it, we test deeper. A cracked igniter throws its spark to the wrong spot. A worn switch under the knob can make every burner click nonstop. A weak spark module gives a slow, pale spark. We check each of those with a meter before naming a part.
Induction zones that flash or shut off
An induction zone only heats when it senses the right pan. Fisher and Paykel notes the display will show an error for a pan that is wrong or too small. So try a flat steel or cast iron pan first. A magnet should stick hard to the base.
When good pans still fail, the fault is inside. These are the parts we see most:
- The power board that drives the coil under one pair of zones.
- The cooling fan that keeps those boards from running hot.
- The touch board under the glass, which can fail after a spill.
- A heat sensor pressed against the underside of the glass.
A zone that cuts out after ten minutes often points at the fan. A whole side that is dead points at one power board.
Things to try before you book
For gas, lift off the grates and caps once the top is cool. Wipe the igniter tip with a dry toothbrush. Let wet parts air dry for an hour. Then hold the dial in a few seconds longer than normal. For induction, turn the breaker off for one minute and back on. Check that the control lock is not switched on. Do not pry up the glass or pull the unit from the counter.
What a cooktop call costs
A tech comes out, tests the unit and tells you what failed. That first look is $79 at a home. Say yes to the repair and the $79 comes off the bill. You hear one fixed number that covers the part and the labor. Nothing is taken apart past testing until you agree. We are an independent shop, so the advice is ours alone. Techs are licensed, insured and background checked. Cooktop calls are booked from 6 AM through 9 PM, weekends included, and most get a same-day slot.
When a new cooktop makes more sense
Most cooktop faults are worth fixing. Igniters, switches and fans are small parts. The cutout in your stone counter was made for this exact unit. A new top may need the stone cut again. We lean toward replacing when the glass is cracked across a zone. We say the same when two power boards fail on an old induction top.
Where we fix Fisher and Paykel cooktops
Our cooktop techs work around Chicago and Houston, across Los Angeles, and in Northern Virginia plus Washington D.C. Chicago owners can see the towns on our Illinois service page. Burners that are part of a full stove belong on the Fisher and Paykel range repair page instead. A wall unit under the cooktop is covered on our Fisher and Paykel oven repair page. One last tip for gas tops. Keep the small brass ports clear with a wooden pick, never a metal pin.
