Technician was able to repair the refrigerator by replacing the seal and cleaning the motor. He decided that it didn’t need a new fan. Very prompt service.

Amazing service! Emil did such a great job repairing my front loading washer. The door gasket needed to be changed. When I used the washer the next, we still had a leak. He made the extra effort to come back that day and found we also had a leaking hose, which he repaired on the spot. Amazing customer service A+.

A+ Appliance Repair saved Thanksgiving! 🦃 Our refrigerator died TWO DAYS before hosting 20 people. Called in a panic for fridge repair near me and they understood the emergency. Sam came out same-day to our Georgetown Washington DC home, diagnosed a failing compressor, and worked late to fix it. He even helped reorganize our food back in the fridge. These people are lifesavers - professional, fast, and they genuinely care. Worth every penny!

My Kenmore gas wall oven would not heat. When I called, the young lady (Bernadette) that answered was so kind and attentive. Very professional, friendly, and efficient. Found and explained the issue to me, politely asked if I wanted the service for the quoted price and after consent, fixed problem. I was very pleased. Thank you, A+👍🏾

What counts as Bosch ventilation here

This page is for Bosch venting that is not a plain wall or island hood. That means three things. First, downdraft units that rise behind the cooktop. Second, custom insert hoods that hide inside a cabinet or a built hood shell. Third, the blowers, ducts and make-up air that serve them.

If you have a chimney hood or an under-cabinet hood, go to Bosch range hood repair. For the brand in general, see Bosch appliance repair.

Downdraft that will not come up or go down

Bosch sells downdraft units in its 800 Series, in two widths. The snorkel sits flush with the counter. Press the button and a motor lifts it. Press again and it drops.

When it stays down, or stops partway, look at the lift system. There is a small gear motor, a drive and limit switches at the top and bottom. A spill that runs down the slot can gum the tracks. A pan handle left in the way can bend the snorkel a little, and then it binds.

If the snorkel rises but the fan stays off, the top limit switch may not be closing. The unit thinks it is still moving. We clean the tracks, test both switches and check the lift motor.

Blowers you cannot see

A Bosch downdraft or insert needs a blower. Bosch lists 600 CFM blowers for internal, inline and remote setups. Internal means in the unit. Inline means in the duct run, often in a joist space or attic. Remote means on the roof or an outside wall.

So when the fan is weak, the first job is to find the motor. An inline blower with worn bearings sends a drone through the ceiling. A remote blower can seize after a hard winter or a wet spring. A control cable runs from the kitchen unit to the blower. If that cable or its plug fails, the buttons light up and nothing spins.

Custom inserts: lights, controls and filters

An insert is a hood with no skin. The cabinet maker builds the shell around it. The parts are the same as any hood: grease filters, lights, a control and a blower link. The hard part is access. Some shells leave no way to drop the insert, so we work from below through the filter opening.

Dead lights on an insert are often the driver, not the lamps. Buttons that stick have grease in them. Bosch says metal grease filters should be washed monthly with normal use. On an insert, people forget because the filters are out of sight.

Duct and make-up air problems

Many venting complaints are not a broken part at all. Downdraft ducts run under the floor, with several turns. Each turn costs airflow. A crushed flex duct or a stuck outside flap can cut the pull in half.

Strong blowers also need air to replace what they push out. Tight homes use a make-up air damper that opens when the fan runs. A damper stuck shut starves the blower, and it gets loud. If it sticks open, you feel a cold draft in winter. We test the damper motor and its link to the fan control.

Homes with no outside duct use a Bosch recirculation kit. The air passes a charcoal filter and comes back into the room. Bosch says charcoal filters cannot be washed and should be swapped every four to six months.

What to look at before the visit

  • Clear the counter slot around the downdraft and wipe any sticky spill.
  • Reset the breaker once if the unit froze partway.
  • Step outside with the fan on. Feel for air at the wall or roof cap.
  • Note where the noise is: at the unit, in the ceiling or outdoors.
  • Find the model tag. On a downdraft it is often inside the cabinet below.

Cost, schedule and repair odds

Our home diagnostic is $79 and approving the job cancels that charge. The tech gives one fixed figure for parts and labor first. He is licensed, insured and background checked. Same-day calls are the norm, seven days a week, and our repairs are under warranty.

Downdrafts are worth fixing. Swapping one means a new counter cutout in most cases. A lift motor, switch or blower costs far less than that. Roof blowers may need a second visit with a ladder crew, and we plan that with you.

We handle Bosch ventilation in the Los Angeles area, per our California page, plus Chicago, Houston, Northern Virginia and the District. If the downdraft sits behind a Bosch cooktop, Bosch cooktop repair may help too. When we finish, we measure airflow at the intake so you know the whole run is working.
