Bertazzoni venting beyond the standard hood

Most people picture a steel canopy on the wall. That product is on our Bertazzoni range hood repair page. This page is for the venting you mostly cannot see. Bertazzoni sells these in the United States:

• Insert hoods. A blower and filter unit that hides inside a custom wood or plaster hood. They come 30 and 36 inches wide.
• A telescopic visor hood. It tucks under a cabinet, and a front panel slides out when you cook.
• An induction cooktop, 36 inches wide, that vents downward through its own glass.
• An over-the-range microwave that vents the stove below.
• Duct covers sold as add-ons for canopy hoods.

We did not find a remote or in-line blower in Bertazzoni's US list. Its motors sit inside the hood or insert. If your kitchen has a blower on the roof or in the attic, it is likely another brand. We can still service it.

Insert hood faults

An insert works hard in a tight space. Heat and grease have nowhere to go but through it. The faults we find are these. The motor bearings dry out and growl. The blower wheel loads up with grease and slows. The control pad behind the trim stops reading a press. The lamp driver fails and the lights go dark.

Getting to the parts is the hard bit. The insert is boxed in by the custom hood around it. We drop the filters, then the inner panel and work from below. On two-motor inserts we test each motor alone. One dead motor cuts the pull by half and is easy to miss.

Downdraft on the induction cooktop

A downdraft pulls smoke down through a slot in the cooktop. A fan under the counter pushes it out through a floor or wall duct. It fights the fact that hot air wants to go up. So it needs every bit of airflow it can get.

Wash the grease filter in the slot often. Check the drip tray below it if your model has one. Liquid spilled into the slot can reach the fan housing. If the fan hums and moves no air, it may be jammed or the motor may be wet. If the cooktop heats but the vent is dead, the vent control or its motor has failed. Telescopic visor hoods

On this hood, pulling the visor out turns on the fan and lights. A small switch senses the slide. If the hood stays off with the visor out, that switch is the first suspect. If the visor sags or jams, its rails are bent or sticky with grease.

Duct problems that look like a bad blower

A strong motor cannot beat a bad duct. We find these often:

• A duct that is too small for the CFM of the blower.
• Too many sharp bends or a very long run.
• Flex duct that has sagged or crushed.
• A backdraft damper stuck with grease or paint.
• An outside cap blocked by a nest or lint.
• Joints that have come apart in the attic.

The signs are loud air noise, weak pull and grease dripping back from the hood. We check the run from the hood collar to the outside cap.

Make-up air, strong blowers and ductless setups

A 1,200 CFM blower moves a lot of air out of a house. New air has to come in from somewhere. Many local codes call for a make-up air damper above a set CFM. That damper opens when the hood runs. If it sticks shut, the hood starves and may pull air down a chimney. If your hood is wired to one and it fails, we can test the damper motor and the link. Bertazzoni does not list a make-up air kit of its own.

Some kitchens have no duct at all. The hood cleans the air with charcoal filters and sends it back into the room. Those filters cannot be washed. When smells hang around, swap them. A recirculating hood will never clear steam. That is a limit of the setup, not a fault.

Cost and booking for vent repair

For $79 a tech comes to your home and tracks down the fault. Approve the repair and the $79 is not charged. We quote a fixed price, parts and labor included, ahead of any work. We are an independent company. We open at 6 AM, close at 9 PM and work all seven days. Same-day times are common. Techs are licensed, background checked and insured, and the repair has a warranty. Duct rebuilds inside walls may need a contractor. We tell you when that is the case.
