Drop-in, front control and rangetop models
Bertazzoni makes several kinds of cooktop. It helps to know yours.
- Drop-in gas cooktops, 30 and 36 inches wide, with four to six brass burners.
- Front control gas cooktops in 24, 30 and 36 inch sizes.
- Gas rangetops, 36 and 48 inches. The 48 has six burners and an electric griddle.
- Induction cooktops from 24 to 36 inches, some with a color display.
- Induction rangetops with five or six zones.
- A 36 inch induction cooktop with a downdraft vent built in.
They are sold in the Professional and Master series. A rangetop has its knobs on the front face and slides into the cabinet. A drop-in sits on the counter with knobs on top. Neither has an oven. For a unit with an oven, see Bertazzoni range repair.
The flame lights, then goes out when you let go
This is the most Bertazzoni fault there is. You push the knob in and turn. The burner lights. You let go and the flame dies. The cause is nearly always the thermocouple.
A thermocouple is a small metal probe that sits in the flame. When it is hot, it holds the gas valve open. When the flame blows out, it cools and the valve shuts. Bertazzoni fits one to every gas burner. It is a safety part, and it works. But the tip gets coated with burnt food, or it bends away from the flame. Then it never gets hot enough to hold the valve.
One test is free. Light the burner and keep the knob pressed while you count slowly to five. The probe needs those seconds to warm up. A flame that quits anyway means a new thermocouple or valve magnet.
Clicking that will not stop
The igniter clicks when you push a knob. It should stop when you let go. If it keeps going, water has usually reached a switch under the knobs. A boil-over or a wet cleaning cloth does it. Let the cooktop dry for a day with the knobs off. If it still clicks, a spark switch is stuck or the spark module has failed. We swap the switch harness as one piece.
Weak or yellow flames
A good gas flame is blue and even. Bertazzoni's big burner has two rings of flame and is rated up to 19,000 BTU. If only one ring lights, the ports on the other are clogged. Lift the brass parts off when they are cool. Brush the ports clean and set each piece back in order. A yellow, lazy flame on every burner points to gas pressure or a wrong setup for your gas type. That one needs a tech with a gauge.
Induction models
An induction zone makes heat only when it senses the right pan. If a zone stays off, test the pan with a magnet first. Then try that pan on a second zone. When one zone is dead with a good pan, its coil or power board is at fault. A top with no life at all sends us to the power feed, then the main board. The touch controls can also lock up if water sits on them. Wipe the glass dry and try again.
On the downdraft model, the vent has its own fan and filters. A weak pull means the grease filters need a wash.
The griddle on a 48 inch rangetop
The griddle is electric, even on a gas rangetop. If it stays cold while the burners work, the fault is electric too. We test its element, its thermostat and the supply to the unit.
Cost to repair a Bertazzoni cooktop
We charge a $79 diagnostic for home visits. Have us fix the cooktop and the $79 is waived. A firm price reaches you first, with labor and parts counted. Some Bertazzoni parts are not stocked nearby and must be ordered. We tell you the wait before you decide. We are an independent company and not tied to Bertazzoni. The tech we send is insured, holds a license and has cleared a background check. Staff answer 6 AM to 9 PM daily, or you can book on the site. A 30-day repair warranty comes with cooktop work.
Repair makes sense for almost any cooktop fault. Thermocouples, igniters and switches are small parts. Cracked induction glass is the costly one. We price it against a new unit for you. Bertazzoni cooktops in the District are a regular stop for us. The D.C. appliance repair page says more. Crews also run in Chicago, Houston, LA and Northern Virginia. See Bertazzoni appliance repair for the full list. A hood that is not clearing smoke belongs on our Bertazzoni range hood repair page. Keep the thermocouple tips clean and your burners will hold their flame.
