Many are painted to match a Bertazzoni range. Motors are rated at 400 or 600 CFM. The largest 48 inch canopy has two motors for 1,200 CFM in total. Hidden inserts and downdraft units are on our Bertazzoni ventilation repair page.
Weak pull is the complaint we hear most. The blower is often fine. Air just cannot get through.
Start with the filters. Bertazzoni hoods use steel baffle filters or aluminum mesh filters. Both kinds lift out and can go in the dishwasher. When they are coated in grease, airflow drops fast. Wash them and test the hood again.
If clean filters do not help, the fault is higher up. A damper flap in the duct may be stuck shut. The blower wheel may be caked with grease. That throws it off balance and slows it down. We take the wheel out, clean it and check the motor bearings.
A rattle that changes with speed is a loose part. It could be a filter, a screw or the wheel on its shaft. Humming while no air moves tells us the motor has seized or lost its start capacitor. A grinding sound is a worn bearing. That motor will not last, so book soon. A flapping sound on windy days is the outside damper and not the hood.
Bertazzoni lists its hoods from under 2 sones on low to about 10 on high. So some roar on the top speed is normal.
These hoods use electronic button controls with three speeds. Some add a booster setting, a timer and a filter alarm. When one button fails, the switch pad is worn. When all of them fail, we test the control board and the power feed. A hood that changes speed by itself also points to the board.
The lights are LED. A single dark lamp is a lamp fault. If every lamp is dark, the driver that feeds them has failed. We bring common lamps and drivers on the truck.
The filter alarm is a reminder, not a fault. It comes on after a set number of hours. Wash the filters, then reset it as your manual shows.
Flip the breaker off and on. Wash the filters. Look at the outside vent cap for a bird nest or a stuck flap. Turn on the hood and hold a tissue near the filters. It should pull up firmly. If it does not, the fault is in the blower or the duct.
A tech visit to a home runs $79. Approve the hood repair and the $79 goes away. One firm price is named ahead of the work. Labor and parts are counted in that figure. Motors, boards, switches and lights are all fair repairs. A hood in a custom color is hard to match, which is one more reason to fix it. We suggest a new hood when the body is dented or the motor is no longer sold. We also suggest it when the hood is too small for a new, larger range.
