Wolf cooktops we work on
Wolf sells three kinds of cooktop. Gas models use dual-stacked sealed burners. Induction models heat the pan with a magnetic field under glass. Electric models use radiant elements under the same kind of glass. Wolf also builds 15 inch modules that sit side by side. There is a grill, a steamer, a fryer and a teppanyaki plate. There is also one big gas burner called the multifunction module.
Our techs work on every one. A+ runs as an independent shop and handles Wolf appliances of every type. A cooktop has no oven below it. If yours does, see our page on Wolf range repair instead.
Why a Wolf gas burner keeps clicking
Each burner has a small spark igniter beside it. It clicks until it senses a flame. Clicking that will not stop has a few known causes. Wolf lists them in its own support pages. The knob may be stuck in. A very large pan can starve the flame of air. The flame lifts, so the igniter fires again. A burner cap that sits crooked does the same thing.
Water is the other big cause. A pot boils over and soaks the igniter or the switch under the knob. Then the burner sparks even when it is off. Dry time often cures it. When it does not, a part has failed. The usual parts are the igniter, the spark switch or the spark module. A cracked or loose igniter always needs to be replaced.
Burners that will not light or hold a simmer
The igniters run on house power. With no power they make no spark at all. So a dead cooktop may just have a tripped breaker. If you hear the click but see no flame, look at the burner. Food can block the small ports in the lower ring. That ring feeds the simmer flame. We clean the ports and test the gas valve. A weak flame on every burner points at the regulator or the gas supply.
Induction and electric faults
An induction zone will not start without a pan on it. The pan must be one a magnet sticks to. If the pan is fine and the zone still blinks, reset the breaker for 30 seconds. When the zone stays cold after that, its coil and power board get tested.
Some calls are not faults at all. Wolf cooktops have a lock mode. Hold the lock key for three seconds to clear it. Some models lock on their own after sitting idle. A display that reads SHOW means showroom mode. The lights work but nothing heats. A lock key that flashes and will not clear needs a power reset. If that fails, the touch control or its board needs testing.
Cracked glass is a different job. The whole glass top must be replaced. Do not cook on it until that is done.
What to check before you book
- Make sure each burner cap sits flat and centered.
- Push each knob in and let it spring back.
- Look at the breaker for the cooktop circuit.
- Try a smaller pan on a burner that keeps sparking.
- Test your induction pan with a fridge magnet.
If you smell gas, do not test anything. Leave the house and call your gas company first.
A Wolf cooktop visit, step by step
Finding the fault on a Wolf cooktop costs $79 at a home. Your tech then names one fixed price with parts and labor inside it. Say yes and that $79 drops away. No tool comes out until you agree. Wolf cooktop calls are often seen the same day. Wolf cooktop calls start at 6 AM and the cooktop desk closes at 9 PM, seven days. Online booking works too. Wolf jobs go to licensed and insured techs who are background checked. Common igniters and switches ride on the truck. A 30-day repair warranty comes with the cooktop repair.
Fix it or replace it
A Wolf cooktop is cut into your countertop. A new one must match that cutout. That alone makes repair the smart first step. A Wolf igniter, switch or spark module is a small job. An induction power board runs higher. It still beats new stone work. We suggest replacing only when an old unit has cracked glass and the parts are gone.
We fix Wolf cooktops across Chicago and the Illinois suburbs. Wolf cooktop owners near Houston or Los Angeles get the same cooktop service. Kitchens in D.C. and Northern Virginia do too. Other cooktop brands are on our stove and cooktop repair page. If steam and grease hang over the burners, the fault may be above them. See Wolf range hood repair for that.
