No heat is the top dryer call we take. The drum turns, the timer runs and the clothes stay wet. On an electric Whirlpool, two parts cause most of it. One is the thermal fuse. It is a cheap safety part on the blower housing. That fuse pops once the Whirlpool overheats. The other is the heating element, a long coil that can snap. On a gas Whirlpool, watch the burner through the small peep hole. The igniter should glow, then a flame should start. No glow means a bad igniter. A glow with no flame means the gas valve coils are weak.
Some Whirlpool electric dryers show L2. It means low line voltage. An electric dryer needs 240 volts. The motor runs on half of that, and the heater needs all of it. When one half of the two-pole breaker trips, the Whirlpool drum still spins but stays cold. Reset the breaker fully off, then on. If L2 stays, the cord, the outlet or the terminal block may be burned. We check that with a meter. It is a fire risk, so do not ignore it.
Whirlpool builds an airflow test into many models. At the start of an automatic cycle, the dryer senses how well air moves. If flow is low, the Check Vent light comes on and stays on. Some models show AF or F4 E3. The dryer keeps running, but loads take far longer. Whirlpool names the causes. The lint screen is clogged. Or the vent is crushed, kinked or has too many turns. Poor airflow also cooks the thermal fuse. So when we change a fuse, we check the vent before we leave. If we skip that, the new fuse will not last.
A high squeal is a worn idler pulley or drum roller. A steady thump is a roller with a flat spot. A dryer that hums with a still drum has a broken belt or a seized motor. Open the door and push the Whirlpool drum around. No drag at all means the belt is gone. These parts wear as a set. We often fit a kit with rollers, pulley and belt in one visit.
You press start and the Whirlpool does nothing. First check the door. The door switch must click. Then check the breaker. A PF code just means the power went out in the middle of a cycle. Hold start to go on. If the dryer is silent with good power, we meter the Whirlpool door switch, then the start button, then the motor.
