Viking has built ranges since 1987, and the lineup is wide. The series and the fuel type decide which parts we bring.

• 5 Series. Open burner gas, sealed burner gas, dual fuel, induction and electric. Widths run from 30 to 60 inches.
• 7 Series. Gas and dual fuel in 36 and 48 inches. These use Elevation burners with brass flame ports.
• 3 Series. 30 inch self-cleaning models.
• Tuscany. Dual fuel ranges 36, 48 and 66 inches wide.

The model and serial tag is usually under the front edge of the cooktop or inside the oven door frame. Read it to us on the phone if you can.

Why a Viking burner keeps clicking

Viking ranges use SureSpark ignition. It is made to relight a burner if the flame blows out. That is handy, but it also means the spark system is always watching. When it sees no flame, it clicks.

After a spill, water sits on the igniter and the clicking goes on. Dry the burner and give it time. When all the burners tick while every knob is off, one spark switch behind a knob is shorted. Grease and cleaner run down the knob stems and ruin the switch. If one burner never sparks, its igniter may be cracked or its wire burned.

Open burners and sealed burners wear differently

Open burner models let spills fall past the burner into a tray. The burner ports stay clearer, but the tray and the parts below need cleaning. Sealed burner models keep spills on the top surface. They are easy to wipe, but boiled-over food bakes into the burner ports. A sealed burner with a ragged flame usually just needs its ports cleared and its cap seated flat.

All Viking burners have a VariSimmer setting for very low heat. If simmer keeps going out or will not turn down, the valve needs adjusting or replacing. On a 7 Series, watch the big front burners. A flame that is yellow or lifts off the ports means the air and gas mix is off.

The oven half of the range

When the top works and the oven does not, the range is still half down. On gas models a worn igniter is the usual cause. On dual fuel models it is an element, a sensor or a relay. We go deep on those faults on the Viking oven repair page.

Two oven faults show up on the whole range. One is a door that no longer shuts tight. Heat leaks up the front and the knobs get hot to touch. The other is a cooling fan that fails. The range then shuts the oven off to protect the controls.

Induction and electric Viking ranges

The 5 Series now comes in induction from 30 to 48 inches. These have no igniters or gas valves. Faults are power boards, cooling fans and touch controls. A dead zone can be nothing more than a pan that induction cannot grip. Try cast iron. The 30 inch electric range uses radiant elements under glass. One dead zone is an element or its switch.

What a range repair visit looks like

We come out, test the range and name the fault. For that home visit the charge is $79. Let us do the range repair and we cross out the $79. A fixed range quote comes first, all labor and all parts counted. We reach most range owners the day they call. The first visits start at 6 AM, the last end by 9 PM, and weekends count. Techs are background checked, insured and licensed, and igniters, spark switches and sensors ride with them. Our warranty covers the range repair. Booking is open online.

An old Viking range is usually worth saving

The frame, the grates and the oven box on these ranges last for decades. What wears out is small: igniters, switches, valves, hinges and sensors. None of those cost much next to a new range of this size. We would talk about replacing only if the oven liner has cracked or parts for a very early model are gone.

Before you call, seat every burner cap, dry any wet burner and check the breaker. A gas range still needs power. A gas smell with every knob off is an emergency. Get everyone outside, then phone the gas utility before you phone us.
