Thermador built-in ovens at a glance

Every Thermador wall oven measures 30 inches across. It ships as a single, a double or a triple stack. There are two looks. Masterpiece has a touch screen and smooth handles. Professional has knobs and heavier handles. The main oven holds up to 4.5 cubic feet. All are electric with True Convection. Many have a SoftClose door, three sliding racks, a meat probe and a rotisserie. Thermador says the rotisserie turns roasts up to 12 pounds.

No heat in a Thermador wall oven

An electric oven heats with elements. One bakes from below and one broils from above. A third sits by the convection fan at the back. When an element burns out, that mode goes cold. You may see a blister or a break in the metal. Often the break is hidden and only a meter finds it.

If the elements test fine, we move up the line. A relay on the control board sends power to each element. When a relay fails, the display looks normal but nothing heats. A blown thermal fuse will kill the whole oven. So will a loose wire at the terminal block behind it.

Uneven baking and wrong temperatures

Thermador claims a fast preheat of about seven minutes. If yours takes three times that, something is weak. The usual cause is one dead element with the others doing all the work.

Cookies that burn on one side point to the convection fan. It should spin the whole time in convection modes. A worn motor slows down or squeals. Next on the list is the oven sensor, a slim probe fixed to the oven's back wall. Its false readings push the real heat well above or below the dial. The meat probe can fail the same way. Its jack inside the oven gets dirty and gives false numbers.

Trouble after a self-clean cycle

Thermador says its self-clean mode takes under two hours. It is very hot in there during that time. Most wall oven failures we see happen right after a clean. The door lock motor sticks and the door will not release. A thermal fuse opens and the oven goes dark. The control board, which sits just above the heat, can also quit.

Let the oven cool fully before you try the door. Turn the breaker off for five minutes, then back on. If the door is still locked, do not force the handle. The lock can be released from behind the panel.

Door, rack and rotisserie repairs

• SoftClose hinges wear. The door drops fast or will not stay part way open.
• The door gasket flattens. Heat leaks and the cabinet face gets hot.
• Sliding racks bind. Self-clean heat strips the grease from their bearings.
• The rotisserie motor stops. The spit sits still while the oven heats.
• Inner door glass cracks or fogs between the panes.

Double and triple stacks

In a double, each oven has its own elements and sensor. They often share one control panel. So one bad panel can stop both. A home diagnostic is $79. When you book the repair with us, that fee is taken off. You are told a fixed price before work begins, and it includes parts and labor.
