Thermador sells its fridges as the Freedom Collection. The line has fresh food columns, bottom freezer models, under-counter units and freestanding models made to look built in. Widths run from 18 inches up to 48. Thermador calls its air system Free Flow cooling. Many models link to a phone through the Home Connect app. We fix all of them. Milk that sours early is the usual first sign. Here is what we look at.
Air has to move. A fan pulls cold air off the coil and sends it past the shelves. If the fan stops, the top shelf warms up first. Food packed against the back vents has the same effect.
Heat has to leave. The condenser sheds the heat pulled from inside. On a built-in, it sits behind a grille. Dust and pet hair coat it over time. Then the compressor runs long and hot and cools less.
The fridge has to know the temperature. A failed sensor tells the control board the wrong number. The board then cools too little or too much. Too much gives you frozen lettuce.
The door has to seal. A torn gasket or a sagging hinge leaves a gap. You may see beads of water inside near that gap.
A fridge makes water each time it defrosts. The melt slides through a small drain into a tray, where it dries off. A clogged drain sends that melt the wrong way. You find it pooled below the crisper bins or creeping out the door. Our fix is to open the drain and rinse it through. On models with water lines, a loose fitting or a cracked tube can drip as well. We trace the line from the wall valve to the door.
Thermador's support guide lists simple causes for a slow or dead water dispenser. The filter may not be turned all the way in. The shut-off valve may be partly closed. The supply line may be kinked. Or the filter is old and clogged. Thermador says to change it every six months.
A flashing filter symbol after a change does not mean a bad filter. The alert has to be reset with a button hold. Your manual shows which buttons, since it differs by model. For smells, Thermador fridges have a carbon odor filter that can be replaced.
Thermador's newest bottom freezer line has a drawer that can chill or freeze. It gives you extra fridge space one week and freezer space the next. If that drawer will not hold its set mode, we test its own sensor and air damper. A damper is a small door that meters cold air. When it sticks, the drawer runs too warm or too cold.
