The three kinds of Samsung cooktop
Samsung sells gas, electric and induction cooktops. Most are 30 or 36 inches wide. Gas models have open burners with knobs. Some gas units add a 22K BTU power burner and a griddle. Electric models heat a coil under smooth glass. Induction models heat the pan itself with a magnetic field. Some induction units have Virtual Flame. That is an LED glow that shines on the side of the pot. It shows how high the heat is set. Gas, electric and induction Samsung tops each break differently. So our first cooktop question is which Samsung type you own.
Induction zones and the pan code
An induction zone needs a pan with a magnetic base. Cast iron works. Many steel pans work. Glass and plain aluminum do not. When the pan is wrong or too small, the display shows an underlined u. Samsung calls that a pan detection error. The zone shuts off after about a minute. Try a pan that a fridge magnet sticks to. If every good pan fails on one zone, the fault is inside the unit. We test the coil under the glass and the power board that drives it. One board often feeds two zones. So two dead zones side by side point at that board.
Electric zones that stay cold or stuck on high
A radiant zone that will not glow usually has a burned out element. The switch or touch board that feeds it can fail as well. A zone that stays on full heat points at the control, not the element. Cracked glass is a bigger job. The whole glass top gets swapped, and we price it before we order it. Please do not cook on cracked glass. A spill can reach live parts below.
Gas burners that click and will not light
Each gas burner has a small spark igniter. Grease or food on the tip makes it click with no flame. A boil over that soaks the burner does the same thing. Let it dry, then brush the tip clean. Make sure the burner cap sits flat. If one burner still fails, we check its igniter and wire. If no burner sparks at all, the spark module is the likely cause. A gas smell with every Samsung knob turned off is urgent. Close the supply valve. Call your gas company before you call us.
Four checks to try first
- Look for a lock icon. Control Lock blocks every touch key.
- Wipe the touch panel dry. Grease and water make the keys ignore your finger.
- Flip the breaker off for one minute. Many cooktop codes clear after a power reset.
- Match the pan to the zone size on induction models.
Still stuck? Write down which zone fails and what the display shows. That note helps our tech load the right part.
Cost of a Samsung cooktop visit
A+ works as an independent shop, not a Samsung agent. Cooktop slots open at 6 AM. The last Samsung cooktop slot is 9 PM, all week. Most Samsung cooktop jobs get a tech out that same day. The diagnostic for a home cooktop is $79. Say yes to the fix and we take that $79 off. You get one fixed cooktop price, labor and parts both counted, before a single screw comes out. Whoever fixes your Samsung cooktop is licensed, insured and background checked. The work carries a 30-day repair warranty. You can book online day or night.
Fix it or buy a new cooktop
Igniters, elements, switches and knobs are small jobs. They make sense on nearly any Samsung cooktop. A glass top or an induction power board costs more. On a newer unit, the repair still wins. On an old unit with cracked glass and a bad board, a new cooktop may be the better buy. Keep the counter cutout in mind. A new model has to fit the same hole. We fix Samsung cooktops around Chicago, and you can see those towns on our Illinois service page. Samsung cooktop owners in Los Angeles and Houston can book us too. So can cooktop owners in Northern Virginia and D.C. We handle Samsung range repair and Samsung oven repair too, and our Samsung repair page lists the rest. One last tip for cooktop owners. If a wall oven sits right under the cooktop, tell us when you book. We may need to slide that oven out to reach the cooktop wiring.
