Burners that click on and on
This is the top Miele range complaint. The burner lights, but the click does not stop. Or the flame flickers and the spark keeps firing. Many gas ranges watch the flame and spark again if they think it went out. So a bad signal means endless clicks.
The cause is often moisture or dirt. A boil-over wets the ignitor and the burner base. Grease on the ignitor tip blocks the flame signal. A burner cap that sits crooked bends the flame away from the tip. Clean, dry and reseat the parts, and the click may stop.
If it does not, a part has failed. It may be the ignitor, its wire or the spark module. We test each one. A module is shared, so a bad one can make every burner click at once.
How Miele stacked burners work
Miele calls them M Pro dual stacked burners. Each has an upper flame ring and a lower one. The top ring gives high heat, up to 19,500 BTU on the large burner. The lower ring gives a steady low flame that Miele calls TrueSimmer.
So there are two gas paths per burner. If high heat is fine and simmer goes out, the lower ports are clogged. If simmer is fine and high is weak, look at the top ring or the valve. On a dual fuel or all gas range, this is key to finding the fault fast.
Sizes, fuels and extras
Miele range widths are 30, 36 and 48 inches. Fuel choices are all gas, dual fuel or induction. Dual fuel puts gas burners over an electric oven. The 36 and 48 inch models can have a grill or an infrared griddle in the top.
Dual fuel models use the M Touch screen and lit knobs. A rangetop is a different product. It has the burners and knobs and no oven. For the brand in full, see Miele appliance repair.
Griddle and grill faults
The griddle heats with an infrared burner under a thick plate. When it will not light, the cause is the ignitor or the safety sensor. When it heats on one side only, the burner screen is cracked or blocked. The grill has its own burner and the same kind of spark system. Grease is the enemy of both. A good cleaning fixes many of these calls.
An induction Miele range has no flame at all. A cold zone often just cannot find the pan. Use a pan with a flat base that a magnet holds. If the zone is still dead, the coil or the power board under it has failed. A cooling fan that quits will make the top shut off when it gets hot.
Oven faults tied to the range
The oven in a Miele range is covered in depth on our Miele oven repair page. Here is the short form. Dual fuel ovens use electric elements and a twin fan system. A failed element or sensor gives slow or uneven heat. All gas ovens use an igniter that weakens with age. A 48 inch range has more than one cavity, and each has its own parts.
Before the tech arrives
- Let the top cool, then lift off the grates and burner caps.
- Wipe each ignitor with a damp cloth and let it air dry.
- Seat every cap flat and turn it until it drops in place.
- Confirm the power cord is plugged in. Gas burners still need power to spark.
- Switch the breaker off for sixty seconds so the controls reset.
If the clicking started right after you cleaned, wait a few hours. Water under the knobs often dries out by itself.
Visit cost and whether to repair
We charge $79 for a home diagnostic. Go ahead with the fix and you keep that money. The price we quote is firm and counts parts and labor. You get it before any tool comes out.
The tech is background checked, licensed and insured. He brings ignitors, switches and common valves. Booking is open daily, 6 AM through 9 PM, and most calls get a same-day visit. A 30-day repair warranty comes with the repair.
A Miele range is a major purchase. Almost any single fault is worth fixing. An ignitor, a module, an element or a board is small next to the price of a new range. We only raise the question when several large parts fail at once on an old unit.
A+ is an independent shop that the same family has owned. We repair Miele ranges in the Houston area, per our Texas appliance repair page, and in Chicago, Northern Virginia, D.C. and Los Angeles. See range repair for other brands. When we are done, we light every burner on high and on simmer with you there.
