A Miele dishwasher does not just quit. It stops, drains if it can and shows a code. These are the ones owners report to us.
Miele gives a home fix for some. For F12 or F13, open the water tap all the way and clean the intake filter. For F78 after a long break, the pump may be stuck dry. Miele says to pour a quart of hot water with a few drops of rinse aid inside. Let it sit five minutes and restart.
F70 is not a home fix. Shut off the water and leave the door closed. We have a guide to these on our blog, Miele dishwasher not draining or showing error codes.
Miele sells two current lines. The G 5000 is the entry line. The G 7000 is the top line. Miele says it ran both through 5,600 wash cycles in testing. That equals about 20 years of use at five or six loads a week.
Many G 7000 models have AutoDos. A round PowerDisk of powder sits in the door and turns to drop a dose. Some have Knock2open, where two knocks swing a handle-free door open. Many have AutoOpen, which cracks the door when the cycle ends to help drying. See our Miele appliance repair page for the brand overview.
Drain trouble is the top call. The filter set in the floor of the tub clogs first. Below it sits the drain pump and a small check valve. A sliver of glass, a fruit pit or a label can jam the pump wheel.
We clear the jam and test the pump. If the pump runs and water still sits, the drain hose or the sink connection is blocked. A new disposal with its knockout plug left in is a classic cause.
These features add motors, and motors can fail. If AutoDos will not dose, check that the PowerDisk is seated flat and not empty. Damp powder can also cake and stall the disk. If the disk is fine, the dosing motor is the next suspect.
A Knock2open door that ignores your knock may have a bad sensor or door motor. An AutoOpen door that stays shut at the end has the same motor to blame. When AutoOpen fails, dishes come out wet. Owners often think the dryer fan broke.
When F70 shows, water has reached the drip tray under the tub. A float there trips and the machine shuts down. The source can be a split hose, a worn pump seal or a door seal that no longer sits tight. Too much soap foam can also push water past the door.
We pull the machine, dry the tray and run a fill with the side panel off. That shows the drip as it starts.
A home diagnostic costs $79 with us. It is waived once you give the OK for the repair. A fixed price comes from the tech first, and that price covers labor and parts. Should you fix it? Nearly always. Pumps, valves, door motors and seals cost a small share of a new G 7000. The steel tub and frame rarely fail. We speak up when a very old model needs a control board that Miele no longer makes.
