Slow drying comes first
Most Maytag dryer calls start with one line. It takes two cycles to dry a load.
The vent is the first thing to check. A crushed hose or a lint packed duct traps wet air. Some Maytag models show a Check Vent notice when air flow drops. That notice is about the house vent or the lint trap, not a broken dryer part.
If the vent is clear, we look inside. A weak heating element heats on one coil only. A cycling thermostat may cut heat too soon. On gas models, worn valve coils let the flame go out early in the cycle.
Maytag dryers use Advanced Moisture Sensing to decide when a load is done. The sensor bars sit near the lint screen. Film from dryer sheets can fool them. The dryer then stops with damp clothes.
No heat at all
- Electric. The thermal fuse has blown, the element is open or one breaker leg has tripped.
- Gas. The igniter is cracked, the flame sensor has failed or the gas valve coils are dead.
- Both. A high limit thermostat has opened after the dryer overheated.
A blown thermal fuse is a symptom. It blows because heat could not get out. We fix the fuse and find the blockage, or it will blow again.
Dryer will not start or will not turn
Push start and hear nothing. That points to the door switch, the start switch, a thermal fuse or the motor. Hear a hum but see no turning drum. That points to a broken belt or a seized roller. The belt switch on many models stops the motor when the belt breaks. We check each in order.
Noise from the drum
A steady thump means a drum roller has a flat spot. A high squeal means the idler pulley or a dry roller shaft. A scrape means the drum glides at the front are worn through. These parts wear together. We often swap rollers, idler and belt in one visit.
Pet Pro and steam models
Pet Pro dryers have an option that tumbles with no heat for a while. It shakes pet hair loose and sends it to an XL lint trap. That trap fills fast in a home with a big dog. Empty it after each load.
Steam models have a water line and a small valve. A leak at the back or no steam in a refresh cycle leads us to that valve or its hose. Wrinkle Prevent keeps the drum turning after the cycle ends. If the dryer seems to run forever, that option may just be on.
Clean the lint screen. Look behind the dryer for a kinked hose. Check the flap on the outside wall. Reset the breaker for an electric dryer. Make sure the gas valve handle is in line with the pipe.
What the visit costs and when we can come
It costs $79 to have a tech come and find the dryer fault. We take that off the bill when you choose the repair. The quote is a flat figure. It counts labor and parts, and it comes before the work. We keep a 6 AM start and a 9 PM finish, with no day off. Same-day visits are our norm. The tech at your door is background checked and works under our license and insurance. We back what we fix with a 30-day repair warranty. A+ is an independent shop with no tie to Maytag.
Old Maytag dryers are worth fixing
A dryer is one of the best appliances to repair. The parts are cheap and the design is simple. Belts, rollers, fuses, igniters and elements bring an old Maytag back for years. The rare bad case is a worn drum plus a dead motor and board on one machine.
We serve Texas through our Houston appliance repair page. See dryer repair or the full Maytag appliance repair page. Its partner is covered on the Maytag washer repair page. Before we go, we time a wet towel load to prove the heat is back.
