Turn the knob, smell gas, see no flame
This is the Lynx call we get most. It helps to know how the grill lights. There is no clicking spark on most models. A small ceramic rod by each burner heats until it glows. Gas flows over it and catches.
The rod needs power. So does the rest of the panel. If every burner fails at once and the knob lights are dark, the grill has lost power. Check the patio outlet. These outlets have a reset button and trip when they get wet. Then make sure the grill's own power cord is still plugged in.
If one burner fails and the rest light, that burner's igniter has broken. They are brittle. A dropped grate or a hard scrape with a brush will crack one. Our Lynx appliance repair page covers Lynx history and the full product list.
Professional and Sedona: what differs
Lynx makes two grill lines. The Professional is the top line. It comes in widths from 30 to 54 inches. You can order it with Trident infrared burners, ceramic burners or a mix. A rotisserie with a rear burner is part of the package.
Sedona by Lynx is the simpler line. It has fewer extras and a lower price. Parts do not swap between the two lines, so we ask for the model number from the rating tag when you book.
Trident burner problems
The Trident is an infrared burner. Gas burns across a ceramic face and the face glows. Unlike most sear burners, it can be turned down low.
- Dark patches on the face. The ceramic has cracked or the tiny holes are plugged with drippings.
- A pop or flash back when lit. Gas is burning behind the face. Shut it off. The burner needs to be replaced.
- Will not turn down. The valve for that burner is worn.
- Takes long to glow. Low gas pressure or a blocked orifice.
To keep a Trident clean, burn it on high for five minutes after you cook. Never pour water on it and never scrape it.
All burners low
When the whole grill runs cool, the regulator has likely gone into its safety mode. This happens when a knob is open while you turn on the tank. Close all knobs. Shut the tank. Wait a minute. Open the tank slowly, then light one burner.
If that does not bring the heat back, the regulator may be bad. On natural gas, the line may be too small for a large grill. We measure the pressure and do not guess.
Uneven heat with good flame is often the briquette trays. Lynx sets ceramic briquettes over the burners to spread heat. When they break up or get soaked in grease, you get flare ups and cold strips.
Lights and rotisserie
Lynx Professional grills have a halogen light over the grates and blue lights at the knobs. Bulbs fail from heat. The switch on the panel fails from rain. If both sets are out, look at the power supply again. We carry bulbs for common models.
The rotisserie motor is built into the grill and has three speeds. If it hums but the spit does not turn, the drive has stripped. If the rear burner will not light, its igniter or its safety valve needs a test.
How a repair visit is priced
Our home diagnostic fee for a Lynx grill is $79, and the $79 is waived if we do the Lynx repair. No work starts until you get a fixed price. It covers the parts and the labor, with no add-ons later.
Lynx visits are set for any hour from 6 AM on, with the final Lynx visit near 9 PM. Booking is open online as well. A same-day slot is usual for Lynx grills. A+ has been a family shop and is independent of any grill brand. A Lynx grill tech from A+ is a licensed, insured pro, and we run the background check before a Lynx job is assigned. Lynx igniters are common truck stock. Trident burners may need to be ordered. The repair carries a 30-day repair warranty.
When a Lynx is worth fixing
Nearly always. The body is thick welded steel. What wears out is small: igniters, burners, valves, bulbs and briquettes. We would only point you to a new grill if the firebox floor has rusted through or the gas manifold is badly pitted.
For the fridge in the same island, see Lynx outdoor refrigerator repair. If your second grill is another make, our grill repair page applies. Lynx is a California brand, and we see its grills year round across Pasadena and Los Angeles. Our Texas, Illinois, Virginia and D.C. crews fix them as well. Each job ends with every burner lit and the hood shut for a ten minute heat test.
