Hestan refrigerator models
Hestan builds its fridges to sit flush in the cabinets. The line has 24 and 30 inch column refrigerators. It also has two 36 inch bottom mount models. One has the compressor at the base. The Pro Style one has it on top, behind a grille. Owners can join columns side by side into what Hestan calls an Ensemble Refrigeration Suite. Freezer columns and wine units can be part of that suite. Other Hestan products are listed on our Hestan repair page.
How the cooling system is laid out
Three design choices shape how we work on these units. First, the evaporator is on the side wall, hidden behind a panel. That gives more shelf depth. Second, each compartment has its own air system. Hestan names this EvenFlow. It also blows a curtain of air across the opening to hold the cold in. Third, the compressor is a variable speed type. It speeds up and slows down instead of cycling on and off.
On the 36 inch models, the bottom drawer has a feature called FreshSelect. You can set it as a fridge, a near-freezing zone or a freezer. So a drawer that seems too warm may just be in the wrong mode.
Fresh food section running warm
Warm food with a running compressor is an airflow problem more often than not. Dust on the condenser coil is the first thing we look for. The coil cannot shed heat, so the whole system falls behind. A slow condenser fan does the same thing.
Inside, we check the evaporator fan. If that fan has stopped, the Hestan coil turns cold while the shelves stay warm. A failed damper or air sensor can starve one compartment while the rest stay cold. Since each zone has its own air path, we test them one at a time.
Frost, ice and water where it should not be
A coat of frost on the side panel means the defrost system missed its job. The parts involved are a defrost heater, a sensor and the control. When frost packs the coil, air cannot pass and the fridge warms up. We melt the ice, test each part and replace the one that failed.
Water under the drawers or on the floor comes from a plugged defrost drain. Melt water backs up and spills inside. We flush the drain line and clear the pan. A door gasket that has split will also pull in damp air and cause frost near the door.
Noise, lights and boards
A variable speed compressor needs an inverter board to drive it. If the fridge is silent and warm but the lights work, that board is a suspect. A new rattle or buzz often comes from a fan blade hitting ice. LED strips light the top and side. A dead strip is a simple part swap.
Steps to take before we arrive
- Read the set points. A classic fridge zone should sit in the high thirties.
- Confirm the FreshSelect drawer mode matches what you store in it.
- Keep food a little back from the side wall vents.
- Shut the Hestan door on a strip of paper. If the strip pulls free with no drag, the seal is weak.
- Once the inside passes 40 degrees, shift the food into a cooler.
Our visit, the fee and your options
The first step is a $79 in-home diagnostic. We waive the fee if you go ahead with the repair. Parts and labor come as one fixed price, given before work starts. Warm fridges cannot wait, so we try hard for same-day visits. You can reach us 6 AM to 9 PM, every day, or book on our site.
A+ is an independent repair company. It has been family owned. Fridge techs show a license and insurance, and a background check is kept for each. Common fan motors and sensors travel with them. Repairs have a 30-day repair warranty.
Fans, heaters, sensors, gaskets and boards are all worth fixing on a built-in unit. Swapping the whole fridge means new panels and cabinet work. A leak in the sealed system of an older Hestan is the one fault where we talk through replacing. Hestan fridge service runs in Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and its suburbs, D.C. and Northern Virginia. See the Houston area service page and our general refrigerator repair page. We also handle Hestan dishwasher repair. On the Pro Style model, vacuum the top grille twice a year to keep the coil clear.
