GE ovens with electronic controls show a code when the board sees a fault. GE posts the full list on its support pages. Below are the codes our techs meet most:
GE says that shutting off the breaker for a minute or two may clear a code. If it comes back, the part named above needs a test. We still check with a meter. A code tells you the circuit, and the fault can be a wire or plug in that circuit. For the full GE family, see our General Electric repair page.
In a GE gas oven, the igniter sits next to the burner under the oven floor. It has to get very hot before the gas valve will open. As it ages, it glows but draws too little current. The valve stays shut, or opens late. You wait thirty minutes for a preheat that used to take ten. A new igniter is the fix nearly every time.
If broil works and bake does not, look at the bake element. On some GE ovens it is in plain view on the floor. A break often shows as a blister or a burned gap. On others the element hides under the floor panel, and we test it from the back. When the element is good, the relay on the control board is next.
An oven that bakes but runs too hot or too cool often has a sensor that has drifted. We measure it and compare it to the chart. A fan that has stopped in a convection oven will also leave cold spots.
Self-clean is hard on an oven. The heat can take out a thermal fuse, a lock motor or the board. GE lists a few door messages. Loc Door flashing with no clean cycle chosen calls for a control reset. OFF can show when the oven is still too hot to clean. If the latch is stuck closed after the oven is cool, suspect the lock motor or the switch that reads it.
Many GE ovens also have Steam Clean. It uses a cup of water and lower heat for about thirty minutes. It is kinder to the parts for light spills.
GE sells single and double wall ovens, and ranges with one or two ovens. The heating parts are alike. The work is not. A wall oven has to be slid partway out of the cabinet to reach the back. Set the clock, because a blinking clock can block a bake on some models. Look for a lock icon and turn the control lock off. Make sure Sabbath mode is not on. Reset the breaker. For gas, check that other gas items in the house work. Do not run self-clean to try to fix a fault.

Igniters, elements, sensors and lock motors are all worth doing on a GE oven. A failed board on an old model can be hard to find. If the part is gone for good, we will tell you before you spend more.
