Gaggenau ovens are all built-in

Some brands put an oven under a cooktop and call it a range. Gaggenau does not sell one. Its ovens are separate units set into cabinets. So this page covers the whole oven family.

The EB 333 is the big one, 36 inches wide. Its door is hinged at the bottom and has a thick steel front. Gaggenau lists 17 heating methods on it, from 85 to 550 degrees. It has a core temperature probe, a rotisserie and a baking stone mode. It cleans itself with pyrolytic heat.

The 400 and 200 series ovens are 24 or 30 inches wide. Most have a door hinged on the side. The newest line is called the Expressive series. Then there are combi-steam ovens. These cook with hot air, steam or a mix. You can set the humidity from zero to 100 percent. Current models connect to a fixed water line and drain. They also descale and clean on their own.

Oven does not heat or heats slowly

An electric oven heats with elements above, below and around a fan. If one burns out, some modes work and some do not. Broil is fine but bake is cold, for example. We test each element and the relay that feeds it. The temperature sensor is next. If it reads high, the oven stops short of the set point. Gaggenau ovens show the real temperature as they heat. Watch it. A number that stalls tells us a lot.

The housing is cooled by its own fan. If that fan fails, a safety cuts the heat to protect the cabinet. The oven shuts down mid-roast and works again when cool.

Uneven results

Gaggenau says the convection fan turns in both directions to spread heat. If the motor sticks or runs one way only, one side of the tray cooks faster. A worn door seal also lets heat out at one corner. We check both.

Steam oven stops steaming

Scale is the usual cause. Hard water leaves chalk in the steam maker, the same as in a kettle. It can block the water path or fool the level sensor. The oven may quit mid-cook or ask for water it already has.

On plumbed models, check that the water valve is open. A drain that is kinked will also stop the program. On older tank models, reseat the tank. If the descale program will not finish, we clean or replace the steam maker and test the pump.

Door and display faults

Newer ovens have no handle. You touch the panel and a motor opens the door. If the opener fails, the door stays shut. Side-hinged doors are heavy, with three or more layers of glass. Worn hinges let them sag and rub. The EB 333 door closes softly on dampers. When a damper fails, it slams or will not stay closed. After a pyrolytic clean, a door that stays locked points at the lock unit.

These ovens run from a touch display and a knob or control ring. A dark display with the oven light working points at the display module. A unit with no life at all points at the power board or the house wiring. Gaggenau ovens are hardwired. There is no plug to check, so start at the breaker.

Owner checks

• Reset the oven breaker.
• Check the Gaggenau display for a child lock.
• Unplug the core probe and try again.
• If the steam oven calls for descaling, run that program.

A Gaggenau oven diagnostic is $79 for a home. The oven fee is waived when the oven repair is approved. The fixed price, parts and labor included, is given up front. A Gaggenau oven sits in a niche cut to its exact size. Another brand will not fit without new cabinet work. So we repair in nearly every case. The one limit is an old model whose main board is no longer made. We check supply before we quote.
