On front load models, F2 is the code for too many suds. Use less soap, and only the HE kind.
The drain pump sits at the bottom of the machine. Small things slip past the tub and land in it. We pull out coins, hair ties, socks and bra wires every week. The pump hums but the blades cannot turn. If the pump is clear and silent, its motor has failed.
Check the drain hose as well. It can kink when the washer is pushed back. It can also clog where it enters the wall pipe. If the hose is pushed too far down the standpipe, the washer can siphon and act oddly.
For E1, look at the taps first. Both hot and cold must be fully open. The inlet hoses have small screens where they meet the washer, and grit plugs them. If the screens are clean and one side still will not fill, the inlet valve is bad. Some top load models have a Max Fill button that adds as much water as the tub allows. Frigidaire says to use it only when a load needs it. If Max Fill does nothing, the water level sensor may be at fault.
A top loader will not spin with the lid loose, and a front loader will not start with the door loose. The lock is a small part with a switch and a latch. When it fails, you see E3 on a top loader. On a front loader the door may stay shut after the cycle, or the washer stops mid cycle. Do not force the door. There is a manual release we can reach from below, and a new lock is a short job.
E4 on one heavy load is normal. Move the items around and start again. If the washer bangs on every load, the parts that hold the tub steady are worn. In a Frigidaire top loader, suspension rods do that job. Front loaders use shocks and springs. A roar that gets louder with spin speed is a tub bearing, which is a bigger repair.
Clothes that come out dripping can mean a worn drive belt, a bad motor control or a drain that is only half working. We test each in turn.
On front loaders, the rubber door boot tears or grows mold in its folds. A torn boot drips at the front. Too much soap makes suds that push out the soap drawer. Under the machine, a loose hose clamp or a cracked pump body is the usual find. For smells, run a hot cleaning cycle and leave the door open to dry.
