Most American dryers blow hot, wet air outdoors through a duct. The current Fisher and Paykel dryer does not. It is a condensing model, 24 inches wide, with a four cubic foot drum. Warm air picks up water from the clothes. Then it passes through a condenser, where the water drops out. That water goes to a tank you empty or out a drain hose.
So the usual vent advice does not fit this machine. There is no duct to clear. Instead there are two filters, a condenser and a small pump. Damp clothes after a full cycle are the top complaint. On a condensing dryer, air flow is nearly always part of it. Lint gets past the door filter and coats the condenser. Then the air cannot shed its water. The cycle runs long and the load stays wet.
If the filters are clean, we test these parts:
A full tank light with an empty tank points at the float or the pump. A drum that turns with no warmth points at the element.
A thump on each turn is often a worn drum roller or a flat spot on the belt. A hum with no turning means the belt has snapped or the motor is stuck. If the dial lights but nothing starts, we check the door switch first. A panel that stays dark calls for a test of the control board and its fuse.
Many homes still have the brand's older full-size vented dryers. Those fail more like other vented machines. A cold drum is most often a burned heating element or a clogged duct. Long dry times mean the duct needs cleaning from the dryer to the outside wall. We can test the air flow and tell you which one you have.
Clean the lint filter in the door opening after every load. Clean the condenser filter when its reminder light comes on. Empty the water tank, and make sure it clicks back in place. If you use the drain hose, check that it is not kinked or pushed too far down the pipe. Give the dryer a few inches of open space so room air can reach it.

Often, yes. These dryers go where a vented one cannot, such as a closet or a condo with no duct. A belt, pump or element costs far less than a new ventless unit. A new dryer makes more sense when the drum bearing and the board both fail on an old machine.
