Washer stopped with a full drum
The cycle quits. Water sits in the drum. The door will not open and the display flashes. It looks bad, but it is often the easiest fix we do.
The drain pump sits at the bottom front. Small things slip past the door seal and land in it. Coins, clips, bra wires and baby socks are the usual finds. The pump jams and the washer cannot empty.
Our tech drains the water first. Then he opens the pump and clears it. The pump is tested with a short cycle. If the jam burned out the motor, a new pump goes in. The drain hose gets a look too, for kinks or lint plugs.
Door stays locked after the cycle
A front-loader locks its door when it fills. It should click open a minute or two after the cycle ends. If water is still inside, the lock is doing its job. Fix the drain and the door opens.
If the drum is empty and the door stays shut, the lock assembly has failed. The latch switch inside it wears out. We release the door by hand and fit a new lock. Please do not force the handle. A broken handle adds a part to the bill.
Banging and shaking on spin
Try the simple cause first. One heavy item, like a bath mat, throws the drum off balance. Add a few towels and run the spin again. Also check that the washer sits level and all four feet touch the floor.
If it still bangs, parts are worn. Shock absorbers hold the tub steady from below. When they go soft, the tub hits the cabinet. We replace them as a set.
A roar that grows louder as the spin speeds up is the drum bearings. Spin the empty drum by hand. A rough, grinding feel confirms it. Bearings are a large job. The whole tub comes out. We price it for you before anything is taken apart.
Leaks and where they start
- Water at the front comes from a torn door seal or something caught in it.
- Drips from the soap drawer mean too much detergent or a clogged dispenser.
- A puddle at the back points to a fill hose or the drain hose.
- Water under the middle can be the pump or a tub hose.
Use only HE detergent and measure it. Too many suds push water out through the drawer.
Musty smells start at the same seal. The rubber seal around the door has deep folds. Water sits in them after each load. Mildew grows there and the washer starts to smell.
Wipe the folds dry after the last load of the day. Leave the door open a crack. Run a cleaning cycle once a month. If black spots have set into the rubber, the seal can be replaced.
What is special about Electrolux washers
Electrolux front-loaders hold about 4.5 cubic feet. SmartBoost mixes water and detergent before the cycle starts. The Adaptive Dispenser takes liquid, powder or pods. Steam models add Perfect Steam. There is also a 15 minute fast wash.
For repairs, the mixing system and dispenser add hoses and valves. A washer that leaves soap in the drawer may have a blocked dispenser. Low water pressure at the tap can cause it too. A steam fault is often a water inlet problem. We check the inlet screens for grit on every fill complaint.
The visit and the price

A washer diagnostic at a home runs $79. Say yes to the repair and the fee is gone. You will know the full price, parts and labor, before we start. A+ is a family shop and is still independent. All techs are licensed and insured. Each has passed a background check.
Repair or replace your Electrolux washer
A pump, a lock, a seal or a set of shocks is well worth doing. These washers sell for more than basic brands. A small repair buys years more use. We back it with a 30-day repair warranty.
Drum bearings on an older front-loader are the hard case. That bill can creep up toward a new machine. We give you both figures and respect your call.
We repair washers across Chicago and the suburbs. Find your town on the Illinois appliance repair page. We are also in Houston, Los Angeles, D.C. and Northern Virginia.
