Warm on top, frozen below
No fault brings more Electrolux fridge calls than this one. The milk is warm. The freezer drawer seems fine. Owners fear the compressor. It is rarely that.
All the cold comes from one coil. It hides behind the back panel of the freezer. A fan blows that cold up into the fresh food section. A damper door lets it in. Three things can break the chain.
- Frost packs the coil because a defrost part failed.
- The fan motor stops or ices up.
- The damper sticks shut.
We pull the panel and look. Frost like a snowball on the coil means a defrost fault. We test the heater and its sensor. We replace the bad one and clear the ice. Cold air reaches the top again within hours.
Models and features that matter in a repair
Electrolux sells counter-depth French door fridges around 21 and 23 cubic feet. The four-door model has a middle drawer called TempAdapt. You set it to suit what you store. The crispers are sold as TasteLock. The brand calls its cooling system LuxCool. There are air and water filters to change.
More features mean more parts. The TempAdapt drawer has its own sensor and damper. If that drawer freezes drinks or runs warm, we test those two. An old water filter slows the flow to the door and the ice maker. Change it on schedule.
The 19 cubic foot single-door fridge has no freezer at all. It is often paired with a twin. See our Electrolux freezer repair page for that unit.
Water in the fridge or on the floor
Melted frost has to go somewhere. It runs down a small drain to a pan under the fridge. When the drain freezes or clogs, water backs up. It pools under the crispers or drips out the front.
We thaw and flush the drain. If the puddle is behind the fridge, we check the water line and the inlet valve. A cracked line drips slowly and can ruin a floor. Turn off the supply valve if you see it.
Ice maker stopped
No ice starts with three simple checks. Is the ice maker switched on? Is the water filter fresh? Is the freezer cold enough? Ice makers will not cycle in a warm freezer.
After that, we test the water valve. We also feel the fill tube for ice, which blocks the water. If water arrives and no cubes drop, the ice maker module itself is worn. We replace it as a unit.
New noises
A buzz or rattle at the rear tends to be the condenser fan. It sits near the compressor. Dust and pet hair slow it down. A chirp or squeal in the freezer drawer comes from the evaporator fan. Ice or a worn bearing causes it. A loud click and then quiet, again and again, is a compressor that cannot start. That often comes down to the start relay.
Things to check today
- Look at the display for the set temperatures.
- Make sure nothing blocks the vents at the back of the shelves.
- Clean the condenser coil behind the lower grille.
- Test each door seal with a slip of paper.
- Do not overfill the freezer drawer. Bags can block the fan.
Timing, the $79 fee and the repair choice
Food is at risk, so call as early as you can. Morning calls often get an afternoon visit. Our office is staffed 6 AM to 9 PM with no days off. You can grab a time online as well.
The tech tests the fridge for a $79 home diagnostic. We waive that charge on any repair you approve. The quote is one locked price with parts and labor. A+ is independent and has stayed in one family. Techs have insurance and a license. None go out without a background check. They bring fan motors, defrost parts, valves and relays.
Most Electrolux fridge repairs are an easy yes. A fan, a defrost heater, a valve or an ice maker costs a small share of a new counter-depth model. Our 30-day repair warranty covers the repair.
A sealed system repair on an aging fridge is the exception. The bill can land near what a new fridge costs. We show you the numbers and you decide.
