How an Electrolux dishwasher cleans

It helps to know what the machine is trying to do. Electrolux builds its 24 inch dishwashers around a few named parts.

SmartBoost mixes the detergent with water before it hits the dishes. The LuxCare Wash Arm is the main spray arm at the bottom. DishSense is a sensor that reads the soil in the water. It makes the cycle longer or shorter to match. Max Dry is the strong drying option. The maker rates the machine at 45 decibels, which is very quiet.

A quiet machine hides trouble. Owners often do not notice a fault until the dishes come out dirty.

Dirty dishes after a full cycle

We start at the bottom. The filter sits under the lower rack. If it is packed with food, dirty water gets sprayed back on the load. Next is the wash arm. Seeds and bits of glass lodge in its holes. An arm that cannot spin leaves one side of the rack dirty.

Then we check the soap. Open the door after a cycle and look at the cup. Soap still caked inside means the lid did not open. A tall pan in the front of the rack can block it. If nothing blocks it, the latch on the cup has failed.

Low water is the last check. The inlet valve lets water in. A weak valve fills too little, and the pump sucks air. You can hear it surge.

Tub stays full after the cycle

A drain fault is the most common Electrolux dishwasher call we take. The drain pump is small. A cherry pit or a twist tie can stop it. We clear the pump and spin it by hand. A pump that is free but silent has a burned motor.

The hose matters as much as the pump. It should loop up high under the counter before it drops to the drain. Without that loop, sink water can flow back in. A new disposal is another cause. It ships with a plug in the dishwasher port. If no one knocked it out, the machine cannot drain at all.

Wet dishes and the rinse aid setting

Poor drying brings in a lot of calls. Often nothing is broken. Rinse aid makes water sheet off the dishes. When the tank is empty or the dose is set low, drops cling and dry as spots.

Fill the rinse aid and turn the dose up a step. Pick Max Dry for loads with a lot of plastic. If glass and china still come out wet, we test the heater and the vent. A dead heater also means the water never gets hot enough to clean well.

Leaks at the door or under the machine

• Drips at the bottom corners come from a worn door gasket.
• Foam pushing out means the wrong soap went in. Hand dish soap will do it.
• A puddle under the front is often a loose hose clamp or a pump seal.
• Water from the side can be a cracked fill line.

We pull the lower panel and run a fill to watch where it starts. Guessing at leaks wastes parts.

Some upkeep heads off most of these faults.

• Rinse the filter once a month.
• Spin both spray arms by hand to see that they turn freely.
• Let the kitchen tap run hot, then press start.
• Check that the door latches with a firm click.

The service call, step by step

When to fix an Electrolux dishwasher

These cost more than a basic dishwasher. A pump, a valve or a gasket is a small part of that price. A heater or a control board is a mid-size repair that still makes sense on a machine in good shape. Our work carries a warranty.

A leaking tub seam is different. So is an old unit with rusty racks and a dead board at once. When the bills stack up like that, we say so.
