Dacor freezer models and how they differ
Dacor sells stand-alone column freezers in 18, 24, 30 and 36 inch widths. Each one takes a cabinet panel and lines up flush with the doors beside it. Inside, the walls are wrapped in stainless steel with LED lights. A digital inverter compressor runs at changing speeds to hold the cold steady.
Most column freezers make two kinds of ice, standard cubes and larger cocktail ice. The narrow 18 inch model makes crescent ice. The door has a push-to-open assist, and the touch panel hides at waist height.
Dacor French door models have a freezer at the bottom. That freezer shares a cabinet with the fridge above. If yours is that style, our Dacor refrigerator repair page fits better.
Frost on the back wall and soft food
A freezer pulls the water out of the air and turns it to frost on the cold coil. Several times a day a heater melts it off. If the defrost heater or the sensor beside it quits, the frost never melts. Soon the coil is a solid white block and no air gets past. The back wall turns white and food near the door goes soft.
A bad door gasket causes a lighter form of the same thing. Warm room air leaks in and leaves snow on the top shelf. On a column freezer, a heavy wood panel can drag the Dacor door off square. We check the gasket with a sheet of paper and reset the hinges if they have sagged.
When the freezer runs but will not get cold
First we listen. If the evaporator fan is silent, cold air stays at the coil and never reaches the shelves. If the condenser fan has stopped or the coil is matted with dust, the freezer cannot dump its heat. Both are common and both are fixable in one trip most times.
The inverter board is next on the list. It drives the compressor. When it fails, the compressor may click and stop, or not start at all. A sealed system leak is the hard case. The freezer runs all day and only the top of the coil frosts. We test for that before quoting, since it is the costly repair.
Ice maker trouble on a Dacor column
- No ice at all: a frozen fill tube, a closed water valve or a failed ice maker.
- Small or hollow cubes: low water pressure or a clogged filter.
- Ice that clumps: the door is not sealing, or the bin sat through a warm spell.
- Water under the bin: a cracked tray or a fill that runs too long.
Checks that cost you nothing
Make sure nothing is stopping the door from closing, like a bag or a box. Look at the set point on the panel. If the lights work but nothing is cold, tell us that when you book. Leave knives and picks out of it. A single slip into a Dacor coil means a refrigerant leak.
The cost of a Dacor freezer service call
Our diagnostic on a home Dacor freezer is $79. That charge is waived as soon as the repair gets your okay. A set price for the Dacor freezer job, labor and parts as one number, comes before we start. Food thaws fast, so a dead Dacor freezer moves to the head of our same-day list. Dispatch opens at 6 AM, and the final visit ends around 9 PM. We do not take weekends off.
A+ is an independent shop. It has stayed in one family. Each tech is insured and licensed, with a background check on file. Fan motors, sensors and heaters are common truck stock. Freezer repairs carry our 30-day repair warranty.
Repair or replace a Dacor column freezer
A Dacor column freezer is sized to its cabinet opening and wears your custom panel. Swapping it is a big project. So a fan, a heater, a gasket or a board is nearly always worth it. We talk about replacing when the sealed system has leaked on an old unit. Even then, the choice is yours after you see the price.
We repair these freezers in Houston and our other markets. See the Texas service area, the main Dacor brand page, or our general freezer repair page. If the door alarm keeps sounding on your Dacor, press the panel in and check the hinge side for a gap.
