The Dacor cooktops we work on
Dacor sells cooktops in two fuel types. The gas models come in 30 and 36 inch widths. The Contemporary gas cooktop has a dark, hard coating on top and a dual-stack brass burner in the middle. The Transitional gas cooktop is stainless steel and uses SimmerSear burners with two valves each. The big burner on the 36 inch unit puts out 19,000 BTU.
The induction models are flat black glass with no frame. The 36 inch Contemporary unit has five cooking zones and a FlexZone area for long pans. It also has a 7 inch screen in place of knobs. Newer gas and induction units can talk to a Dacor hood over Bluetooth and turn the fan on for you.
A Dacor cooktop is set down into the stone, with the controls up top. If yours has knobs on the front edge, it is a rangetop. We cover those on our Dacor rangetop repair page.
Why a Dacor gas burner clicks and will not light
Each burner has a small ceramic igniter next to the brass cap. It makes the spark. Grease and boiled-over food coat the tip, and the spark gets weak or jumps the wrong way. A cracked igniter does the same thing. We clean or replace it and the burner lights again.
Sometimes every burner clicks at once and will not stop. That points to a wet spark switch under a knob, or a worn spark module. A spill that ran down a knob stem is the usual cause. The module is one part that feeds all the igniters, so one bad module can upset the whole top.
A low or uneven flame is a different fault. The burner ports may be plugged with food. The cap may be sitting crooked after cleaning. On a two-valve burner, one valve can stick so you lose the simmer ring or the high ring. We test gas flow at each ring before we order anything.
Faults we see on Dacor induction cooktops
- One zone will not heat. Its coil or the power board beneath it has quit.
- Nothing on the glass lights up. We check the house breaker first, then the main power board.
- The screen is dark or will not take a touch. We suspect the display board or the ribbon cable feeding it.
- A pan is not found. The pan may not be magnetic, or the sensor under the glass is off.
- The cooling fan is loud or has quit. The top then shuts down to guard its boards from heat.
Cracked glass is its own job. We can replace the glass top on most models if the part is still sold.
Things to try before you book
On gas, let the cooktop dry out for a day after a big spill. Pick up every brass cap and reseat it level. Clear the ports with a wooden pick, not a metal one. On induction, hold a magnet to the bottom of the pan. If it does not stick, the pan is the problem. Next, flip the cooktop breaker off, count to sixty and flip it on. Smelling gas while every Dacor knob is off is an emergency. Get outside and phone the gas utility before anyone else.
What a Dacor cooktop visit costs
Finding the fault on a home Dacor cooktop costs $79. Say yes to the fix and that $79 is wiped from the invoice. One set price, parts plus labor, is shown to you before a single tool comes out. Most cooktop calls get a same-day slot. Our first visits roll at 6 AM and the last ones wrap up by 9 PM, Sundays too. You can book the visit online.
One family has owned A+, and the shop is independent of Dacor. The techs we send are insured, licensed and cleared by a background check. Spark igniters and knob switches for the common Dacor tops travel in the van. The work comes with a 30-day repair warranty.
Fixing a Dacor cooktop or buying a new one
An igniter, a spark module or a gas valve is a small job on a costly cooktop. Those are worth doing. A new cooktop also has to match the hole already cut in your stone counter, and few brands line up. Replacing makes more sense when an old induction unit needs both the glass and a power board. We will price both paths so you can choose.
We repair Dacor cooktops in Pasadena and across Los Angeles, the brand's home turf. See our California appliance repair page for towns we cover. Read about other models on our Dacor appliance repair page, or see our Dacor range repair page if yours has an oven below. One last tip for gas owners: after you wash the brass caps, dry them fully, or the next spark will be weak.
