Bosch range codes and what they point to
A Bosch range often tells you what hurts. Bosch lists these codes for its freestanding ranges.
- e005 means the display board and the power board lost contact.
- e011 means a touch sensor on the oven panel failed.
- E100 means an electronics fault.
- e310 means a power supply failure.
- ERR or toP shows when a burner is on during self clean.
For most of these, Bosch says to switch the breaker off for five minutes. Try that once. If the code returns, a part has failed and a reset will not hold. The e310 code is one to take to heart. It can mean the house wiring is giving the range the wrong voltage.
What Bosch sells as a range
A range is a cooktop with an oven below it in one body. Bosch builds them as slide-in and freestanding units. You can get gas, electric, induction or dual fuel. Dual fuel means gas burners over an electric oven.
The lines are the 100 Series, the 800 Series and Benchmark. There is also an 800 Series industrial-style range in 30 and 36 inch widths. It has heavy metal knobs and sits on feet. The Bosch repair page has more about the brand.
Burner trouble on gas and dual fuel
A burner that clicks and will not catch has a dirty igniter or a clogged port. Spills bake onto the burner head and block the small holes. The flame turns yellow or lifts on one side. Bosch uses a dual flame burner on some models. It has two rings, so it has two sets of ports to keep clear.
If the clicking never stops, a spark switch is wet or worn. If the flame dies once the knob is released, we check the valve and the gas pressure. None of these parts are large. Most are a one trip repair.
Induction and electric tops on a range
An induction range heats the pan with a coil under the glass. A zone that blinks and will not heat may not sense the pan. Try one that a magnet sticks to. If that fails, the coil or its power board is the cause.
Bosch says the control panel can overheat and show E302. A pot hanging over the panel edge can do that. Slide the pot back and let it cool. A smooth electric top is simpler. A dead element or a worn switch is the usual find.
As for the oven half, this page stays with the range as a whole. Bake faults, igniters, sensors and stuck door locks are on our Bosch oven repair page. One thing ties the halves together. Many Bosch ranges share one main board between the top and the oven. So a board fault can make both act up at once.
Bosch also fits a soft-close door on some ranges. If the door starts to slam or sag, the hinges are worn. We swap them as a pair.
A few checks worth your time
- Pull the burner caps and wash them. Bosch says its grates can go in the dishwasher.
- Poke burner ports clear with a wooden pick, never metal.
- See that the range is pushed fully onto its plug and the gas valve is open.
- Wipe the touch panel dry, since water on it can set off e011.
- Look at the anti-tip bracket if the range rocks.
Pricing that is set before we start
Our charge is $79 to visit a home and trace the fault. If you have us fix it, the $79 is dropped. Our quote is one firm number that covers the part and the work. Nothing starts until you agree to it.
For range calls we send a licensed tech with insurance and a cleared background screen. Igniters, switches and elements ride along in the truck. A same-day visit is likely for a range call. We pick up the phone 6 AM to 9 PM, weekends included.
Keep it or replace it
A Bosch slide-in range costs a good deal to replace. The counter is cut to fit it too. So an igniter, switch, element or hinge is worth doing. We slow down when an old 100 Series needs a main board and a cooktop glass together. That can run close to a new range, and we will say so plainly.
A+ is an independent shop, in one family's hands. We fix Bosch ranges in Chicago and nearby towns, listed on our Illinois service page. The Houston area, Northern Virginia, Washington D.C. and the Los Angeles area are on our list as well. For other makes, see range repair. If you own the industrial-style model, tell us when you book. Its knobs and burners use parts the slide-ins do not.
