Three kinds of Bosch oven are covered below. The first is the oven below the burners in a Bosch range. The second is the speed oven, which bakes and microwaves in one cavity. The third is the Benchmark steam convection oven.
Bosch builds speed ovens for its 500 and 800 Series and for Benchmark. Widths are 24 or 30 inches. Bosch steam ovens have an inside water tank. They need no water line. Our Bosch brand page lists every Bosch product we work on.
An electric Bosch oven has a bake element, a broil element and a convection element. When one burns out, the oven heats slowly or browns on one side. Bosch range ovens use what it calls Genuine European Convection. That means a fan and a third element at the back. If the fan stops, cookies on the top rack burn while the bottom stays pale.
In a gas oven, a hot surface igniter lights the burner. A weak igniter glows but never opens the gas valve. You smell a bit of gas and the oven stays cool. We replaced one of these on a Bosch in La Grange, and you can read that job in our Bosch oven igniter repair notes.
The temperature sensor is a thin rod on the rear wall. A bad reading makes the oven run hot or cold. On Bosch ranges, code e101 means that sensor has a fault.
Self clean locks the door with a small motor. The lock should let go once the oven cools. If the motor or its switch sticks, the door stays shut. Bosch lists e126 for a door lock fault on its ranges. Its advice is to cancel the cycle and wait.
Give it a full hour to cool. If the latch still holds, switch the breaker off and wait a few minutes. Do not pry the door. One more tip from Bosch: take every rack out before self clean. The sliding racks can be ruined by that heat.
A Bosch speed oven has five modes. They are convection bake, broil, convection, microwave and a combined mode Bosch calls SpeedChef. So it can fail like an oven or like a microwave.
If it bakes but will not microwave, the high voltage side is at fault. If it microwaves but will not bake, check the element and the fan. A fuzzy or dead display is often the control board. Code E11 means the touch keys are misreading, often from steam on the panel.
Hard water leaves lime inside the steam system. Bosch says regular descaling keeps the oven working well. Skip it and steam gets weak, or the oven asks for water with a full tank. The tank seat and its small pump can also leak or clog.
When the oven asks for a descale, run that program. If the message will not clear after that, we check the pump and the steam generator.

A Bosch oven is nearly always worth fixing. An igniter, element, sensor or lock motor costs far less than a new range. A dead main board on a very old unit is the one case where we talk about replacing.
