Bertazzoni wall ovens are electric. The main size is 30 inches wide. It is sold as a single oven and as a double. There is also a 24 inch convection oven for smaller kitchens. The Professional series has two trim levels. The top one adds steam assist and a color screen that Bertazzoni calls the Assistant. It walks you through a recipe and sets the oven for you. The other level has self-clean and simpler controls. The Master series has a self-clean model and a manual clean model.

The oven is on but will not get hot

There are heating elements at the top, the bottom and around the fan. Each is a loop of metal that glows when power runs through it. Over time one can burn open. Then the oven heats slowly or on one side only. A broil element that fails takes grilling and top browning with it.

Behind the elements are the parts that feed them. The control board has a relay for each element. A safety thermostat cuts power if the cabinet gets too hot. A cooling fan keeps the controls from cooking. If that cooling fan dies, the safety cuts in and the oven shuts down part way through a roast. It will work again once cool, then quit again. That pattern is a strong clue, so tell us if you see it.

Breaker trips when the oven heats

An element can crack and touch the metal oven wall. Power then leaks to ground and the breaker trips. It often happens a few minutes in, as the element swells with heat. Stop using the oven until it is fixed. We test each element for a leak to ground and replace the bad one.

Pale trays and uneven results

The convection fan at the back moves hot air around the food. When it stops, the side near the fan cooks less. When its bearing wears, you hear a scrape or a whine. The oven sensor is the other half of even baking. If roasts take far longer than the recipe says, the sensor may read high. Hang an oven thermometer on the middle rack to check.

After self-clean: locked door or dead oven

Self-clean burns soil to ash with very high heat. The door locks first. When the cycle ends and the oven cools, the lock should let go. A stuck lock motor keeps it shut. High heat can also open a thermal fuse, which leaves the display on and the oven cold. Give it a full two hours to cool. Reset the breaker once. If the door is still locked, call us and leave the handle alone.

Steam, screen and door faults

On steam versions, a small tank supplies the water. Minerals in that water crust up the feed line and the steam maker. Steam gets weak and the oven may ask for a clean. Use the descale routine in your manual when it does. If steam stays weak, the pump or the steam maker needs service.

The Assistant screen is a small computer. It can freeze like one. Turn the breaker off for five minutes to reboot it. If the screen stays blank or ignores your finger, blame the display board or the ribbon cable behind it.

A door that will not close flat lets heat out and makes the fan run on. Hinges wear and gaskets flatten. Glass can crack from a knock or a cold splash on a hot door. All three can be replaced without a new oven.
