Three kinds of Bertazzoni fridge
The repair depends on the type, so here they are.
Built-in columns. These are tall, all-fridge units with no freezer inside. They come 24, 30 and 36 inches wide. Some have a water dispenser inside the door. They sit flush with the cabinets and take a custom panel.
Built-in bottom mount. The fridge is on top and a freezer drawer is below. Widths are 24, 30 and 36 inches. They have an ice maker, and some have an inside water dispenser.
Freestanding. The lead model is a French door design, 36 inches wide and counter depth, with ice and water. Bertazzoni also sells slim 24 and 31 inch bottom mount models.
For a tall all-freezer column, see Bertazzoni freezer repair. The rest of this page is about fresh food cooling.
Warm at the top, cold at the bottom
In a bottom mount or French door fridge, the cold is made near the freezer. A fan and an air door send some of it up to the fresh food space. When the top is warm and the freezer is fine, the cold is not getting up there. The fan may have quit. The air door may be stuck shut. Or frost has plugged the air path. That last one means the defrost system has failed. You may hear the fan hit ice before it stops.
A column is simpler. It has its own coil and fan right behind the back wall. If a column is warm, we check that fan, the condenser and the sensor first.
Too cold is a fault too. An air door stuck open floods the fridge with freezer air. A bad sensor can tell the board the fridge is warm when it is not. Food stored right against the rear vent will freeze as well. Move it forward two inches and check again the next day.
Water inside the fridge
Puddles under the drawers come from the defrost drain. Crumbs or ice block the small hole at the back. Melt water then runs onto the floor of the fridge. We clear the hole and the tube. On models with a water dispenser or ice maker, we also check the fill line and the valve for drips.
Ice and water faults
No ice and no water together points to supply. Check the valve on the wall and the filter. Water but no ice points to the ice maker or a frozen fill tube. Ice but slow water points to the filter or the dispenser valve. Cubes that taste bad mean the filter is past due.
Noise from a built-in Bertazzoni
A built-in breathes through a grille at the base or the top. If that grille is blocked, the fridge runs loud and long. Buzzing behind the rear inside wall comes from the evaporator fan. Rattles down low tend to be the drain pan or the condenser fan. Worse is a sharp click that repeats with no cooling after it. That is the compressor trying to start and failing.
Before you book
- Set the fridge to its normal setting and wait a day.
- Vacuum the grille and the condenser if you can reach it.
- Check the door seal for gaps, tears or stuck crumbs.
- Make sure the fridge is level so the doors swing shut.
Bertazzoni fridge repair cost
We come out, test the fridge and name the fault for $79. When the repair is approved, we waive that $79. You are quoted a fixed amount with parts and labor before work starts. If a Bertazzoni part has to be ordered, we say how long and set the return date. Same-day visits are the norm for fridge calls. Bertazzoni fridge techs are licensed and insured, with backgrounds we have checked. The job is under our 30-day repair warranty.
A built-in fridge is nearly always worth a repair. The cabinet bay and panel were made for it. On the freestanding models, we weigh the age against the cost. A fan, sensor, gasket or valve is a yes at any age. A compressor on a ten year old freestanding unit may be a no. We fix Bertazzoni fridges in Washington D.C. See the Washington D.C. service page.
