Bertazzoni freezers are built-in columns
Bertazzoni sells its freezers as tall built-in columns. They come 18, 24 and 30 inches wide. You can get them panel ready, in stainless steel or in a dark finish called Carbonio. The door can hinge left or right. Some 18 and 24 inch columns have an ice maker. Most are set beside a fridge column of the same height. Bertazzoni's other fridges have a freezer drawer at the bottom. Faults in those drawers are covered on our Bertazzoni refrigerator repair page.
Signs your freezer column is in trouble
A freezer rarely quits all at once. It gives hints for a few days first.
- Ice cream turns soft while meat stays hard.
- Frost grows on food bags or the back wall.
- The motor seems to run all the time.
- The side of the cabinet next to it feels warm.
- The ice bin fills slowly or the cubes are small.
- A door alarm sounds though the door looks shut.
Call when you see the first hint. It is cheaper than losing a full load of food.
What goes wrong inside
These columns are frost free by design. Several times each day, a heater briefly warms the coil so the frost lets go. A sensor ends the cycle. The melt water runs out through a drain.
When the heater or sensor fails, frost never melts. It piles up on the coil until air cannot pass. The back panel turns white and the front of the freezer warms. This is the fault we find most in built-in freezers of any brand. The Bertazzoni brand page we work from names it too.
The evaporator fan is next. It sits behind that same back panel. Ice can jam its blades, or the motor wears out. A chirp or a buzz that stops when you open the door is the fan.
The condenser is at the base or the top, behind a grille. It needs open air. Dust builds up there, and so does heat. A yearly cleaning keeps the compressor from working too hard.
A tall, narrow door is heavy. With a wood panel on it, it is heavier still. Hinges can sag over the years. Then the gasket does not meet the frame at the top corner. Warm air slips in and turns to frost along that edge. We adjust or replace the hinges and fit a new gasket if it is torn or stiff. This fix is often all a frosty column needs.
Ice maker not working
On columns with an ice maker, start with the water. Is the supply valve open? Is the line kinked behind the unit? Is the filter overdue? Next is the fill tube. It can freeze solid and block the water. The inlet valve comes next, then the ice maker module. Low water pressure makes hollow or tiny cubes.
Keep your food safe while you wait
Leave the door closed. Sealed up, the column holds its cold well into the next day. Never pry at frost using a knife or screwdriver. A nicked cooling line lets the gas out, and the freezer is finished. Do not unplug it to defrost unless we ask you to. If food has started to thaw, move it to a cooler.
Our freezer visit and fee
Warm freezers go to the front of our list, often for a visit that day. Homes pay $79 for the diagnostic. Hand us the job and the $79 disappears. The quote is fixed. It has the parts and the labor in it, and you see it before we begin. Bertazzoni parts can take longer to arrive than parts for big American brands. If we must order one, we tell you the wait and book the return trip. A+ is independent. Ownership has stayed in one family. Freezer techs are insured and licensed, and their backgrounds are checked. Freezer calls are taken 6 AM to 9 PM, and the web form works overnight. A 30-day repair warranty backs each repair.
Repair or replace a Bertazzoni column
A column is fitted to your cabinet run and often wears a panel cut to size. That makes repair the first choice. Defrost parts, fans, gaskets, hinges and ice makers all cost far less than a new column. A failed compressor on an older unit is where we stop and compare. You get both prices.
We fix Bertazzoni freezers around Chicago, and our Illinois service page lists suburbs. Other teams cover Southern California, Houston, Virginia and D.C. See our Bertazzoni page or general freezer repair. When you book, tell us the column width and if it has a panel. It helps us bring the right gasket.
