First, which Asko dryer do you own

Asko sells two kinds of dryer in the United States. The repair path depends on which one is in your laundry room.

A vented dryer heats air with an electric element and blows the damp air outside through a duct. A heat pump dryer has no duct. It works like a small air conditioner in a loop. It pulls water out of the air and sends it to a tank or a drain. The same air goes around again.

Look behind the machine. If you see a four inch duct, it is vented. If you see only a cord and maybe a thin drain hose, it is a heat pump. Our Asko repair page covers the brand as a whole.

Vented Asko dryers: no heat and long cycles

When a vented model tumbles with cold air, the heating circuit has opened. The element may have burned through. A thermal cutout may have tripped because the dryer got too hot. The cutout is a safety part, and it trips for a reason.

That reason is nearly always airflow. Lint packs the duct or the flap on the outside wall sticks shut. Heat backs up and the safety opens. If we only swap the part, it will fail again in a month. So we check the whole duct run on every no heat call.

Heat pump Asko dryers: damp loads and water faults

A heat pump dryer runs cooler by design. A normal load takes longer than in a vented dryer. But if times have doubled, something is blocked.

• The door lint filter. Clean it after each load.
• The second filter near the floor, in front of the heat pump coils. Fine lint gets past the first filter and lands here.
• The coils. Once lint coats them, air can't pass and drying slows to a crawl.
• The water path. If the little pump fails or the tank fills, the Asko pauses and shows a tank warning.

Some Asko models rinse their own filter with the water they collect. That helps, but it does not replace hand cleaning. When the coils are matted, we open the base and clean them the right way.

Drum, paddles and sensors

Asko shapes its drum paddles to move clothes in a figure eight. The brand calls it Butterfly Drying. The goal is to stop sheets from balling up. A feature named Bundle Guard watches humidity. If it drops too fast, the dryer thinks the load has balled up and turns the drum backward for half a minute.

This matters for repair. A dryer that stops early with wet clothes often has a dirty or failed moisture sensor. Dryer sheets leave a film on the sensor bars. Wipe them with a little white vinegar. If that does not help, the sensor or the board is reading wrong.

A drum that will not turn points to a broken belt or a failed motor. A thump once per turn means a worn drum support. A squeal at start is often the belt tension wheel.

Will not start at all

Check the breaker first. An electric Asko dryer sits on a double breaker, and one half can trip alone. Then check the door. The latch has a switch, and the dryer will not run if the switch does not close. A child lock on the panel can also block the start button. If none of that is it, we test the door switch, the start circuit and the control board.
