Alfresco's pizza oven burns gas, not wood. It comes in two builds. One sits on a counter, and one slides into a cut-out. Both run on propane or natural gas.
Inside, there are two heat sources. A ceramic infrared burner sits under the hearth and heats the slab from below. A log style burner at the rear throws flame across the top. The hearth and the ceiling are both thick ceramic slabs that soak up heat and give it back. Alfresco says the oven is ready in about 15 minutes.
When both burners work, the crust and the top finish together. When one is weak, you get a burned top with a pale base, or the reverse. That clue tells us where to look. More on the brand is on our Alfresco repair page.
A burner that never lights has a spark or gas problem. We check the igniter tip, its wire and the power to the ignition. We also check that gas is reaching the burner.
A burner that lights and then goes out is a safety issue. A small sensor sits in the flame. It tells the gas valve that fire is present. If the sensor is dirty, bent or worn out, the valve closes after a few seconds. Cleaning or replacing that sensor fixes most of these calls.
Wind can do it too. The oven vents out the back. A strong gust into that vent can push the flame off the sensor. If it only drops out on windy days, tell the tech.
We measure gas pressure with a gauge. We do not judge it by eye. A pizza oven needs full pressure to reach its heat.
The glass doors lift off for cleaning, and they get dropped. A cracked pane should be replaced, not taped. Hinges can also bend so the doors hang open and leak heat.
The hearth slab can crack if cold water hits it while hot. A hairline crack still cooks fine. A slab in two pieces should be replaced. The halogen oven light has a bulb and a lens that both wear from heat.
Check the tank level or the gas shutoff. Reset the patio outlet if the igniter is silent. Brush loose flour off the hearth once it is cold. Look in the back vent for leaves or a nest. If you smell gas when the knobs are off, close the supply and call us. Do not try to light it.
