What is inside an ALXE grill
An Alfresco ALXE has more going on than a plain gas grill. Under the grates are stainless main burners. Over them sits a tray of ceramic briquettes that spread the heat. Many grills swap one main burner for the Sear Zone, an infrared burner that gets very hot very fast.
At the back wall is a second infrared burner for the rotisserie. The spit is turned by a chain drive hidden in the grill body. On the left is a smoker drawer with a small burner of its own. Hood lights and the ignition run on house power.
Each of those is a system we test. Our Alfresco appliance repair page covers the rest of the line.
No spark, no flame
You push the button and nothing lights. Start with power. The ignition on an ALXE needs a live 110 volt outlet. Patio outlets trip often after rain. Press the reset on the outlet and try again.
If the outlet is fine, we check these in order.
- The igniter tip at each burner. Grease and rust stop the spark.
- The wire from the module to the tip. Heat makes old wire brittle, and it can crack.
- The ignition module. If no burner sparks, the module or its power supply has failed.
- The gas itself. An empty tank or a closed valve fools a lot of people.
Sear Zone and rotisserie burner trouble
Both of these burners are ceramic. Gas burns on the face of a tile full of tiny holes. When the tile is healthy, it glows orange edge to edge. When it cracks or clogs, you get dark spots or a flame that pops back.
Drips are the main enemy. Marinade falls on the hot tile and bakes into the holes. Do not scrub the tile with a wire brush. Run the burner on high for a few minutes after cooking to burn it clean. If the tile is cracked, the burner needs to be replaced.
A spit that will not turn
The rotisserie drive is built in, so there is no motor hanging off the side. When the spit stops, the cause is the motor, the chain or the switch. A heavy roast that is off center can also stall it. We open the side panel, test the motor and check the chain for slack.
Weak heat, dead lights and the smoker
Low flame on one burner means a blocked burner tube or a stuck valve. Insects build nests in the tube where gas and air mix. Low flame on all burners means a supply problem. The regulator may have tripped its safety, or the gas line may be too small for the grill.
Hot and cold spots with good flame are often the briquette tray. Broken or missing briquettes leave gaps. Flip the tray now and then so grease burns off both sides.
Halogen hood lights burn out, and the sockets rust. The light switch on the panel can fail from rain. The smoker burner has a small orifice that clogs with ash. None of these are big jobs, and we can often do them on the first trip.
How we charge and schedule
We are A+, a family owned repair company, and we are independent of any grill maker. A home visit to diagnose an Alfresco grill costs $79. Have us do the grill repair and the $79 is not billed. The Alfresco quote is a fixed price, given up front, parts and labor together.
An Alfresco tech can come as early as 6 AM or as late as 9 PM, any day. Book by phone or online. Same-day slots cover most calls. Alfresco grill techs are licensed, insured and background checked. Each Alfresco repair is under our 30-day repair warranty. Igniters and valves are common truck stock. Sear Zone burners may be ordered.
Repair or replace, and where we work
The welded steel body of an Alfresco lasts a very long time. Burners, tiles, igniters, valves and lights are all parts you can swap. We only suggest a new grill when the firebox itself has burned through.
See Alfresco pizza oven repair if you own the oven too. Other brands are on our grill repair page. We fix Alfresco grills in Southern California, where they are made. We also fix Alfresco grills in Houston and Chicago. Alfresco owners in D.C. and Virginia get the same crew. Before we leave, we light every burner and check the flame with the hood open and shut.
