AGA lists two refrigerators for the US. One is the 36 inch Mercury French door. The other is the 36 inch Elise French door. Each has two doors on top for fresh food and a freezer drawer below. The doors come in AGA colors to match the range across the room. We also see older AGA fridges that are no longer sold. If yours is one of those, read us the model tag inside the door.
This is the classic French door fault. In most of these designs, cold air is made in the freezer. A fan blows it up a duct into the fresh food side. So when the top warms and the bottom stays cold, the air is not moving.
We look at three things. The first is the evaporator fan, which pushes air over the cold coil. The second is the damper, a small door in the duct. The third is frost. If the defrost heater or its sensor fails, ice packs the coil and blocks the air. You may see a sheet of frost on the back wall of the freezer. That is the sign.
First, clean the coils. They sit behind the grille at the bottom or at the back. Dust there makes the fridge run hot and long. A soft brush and a vacuum will do it. Second, look at how the fridge is packed. Food pushed hard against the back vents will block the air. Leave a gap.
If the fridge is warm right now, keep the doors shut. Move milk and meat to a cooler with ice. Do not turn the dial to its coldest setting. That will not speed things up and can freeze the coil worse.
Your tech reads the temps in both sections first. Then the fans, the defrost parts and the controls each get a test. After that you hear what failed, in plain words. Diagnosing an AGA fridge at home is $79. Approve the fridge repair and the $79 comes off your total. For the AGA, we quote a single locked number, labor plus parts. Nothing starts until you agree.
