Sub-Zero undercounter units we service
Sub-Zero sells a wide set of small units. There are refrigerator drawers and freezer drawers. There are beverage centers with glass doors. There are undercounter ice makers and small wine units. Some are rated for outdoor kitchens. Most can wear stainless steel or a custom panel that matches the cabinets.
This page covers the drawers, beverage centers and ice makers. Wine units have their own page at Sub-Zero wine cooler repair. For the tall units in the main kitchen, see Sub-Zero refrigerator repair.
Heat has only one way out
A full-size Sub-Zero can breathe at the top. An undercounter unit cannot. It is boxed in by cabinets and a stone counter. Air comes in and goes out through the grille at the floor. The condenser and its fan sit right behind that grille.
That spot is a dust trap. It is at floor level, where lint, pet hair and crumbs collect. In a bar or a pool house it gets worse. When the coil clogs, the unit runs hot and long. Temps creep up. In time the fan motor or the compressor gives out. So we start every undercounter call with a light and a brush at the grille.
Drawer faults
Drawers bring their own set of troubles. They are opened many times a day and often carry a heavy load of bottles.
- Drawer will not close flush. A slide is bent or a roller has broken.
- Drawer closes but leaks cold. The gasket is cracked or has pulled out of its track.
- Top drawer cold, bottom warm. The fan that moves air between them has stopped.
- Frost on the drawer walls. Warm air is leaking in past the seal.
- Alarm beeps. A drawer is open a crack or the temp is too high.
- Panel rubs the cabinet. The drawer front has slipped and needs to be squared up.
A quick test. Close each drawer and press on the four corners of the front. If one corner gives, the seal is open there.
Beverage centers, ice makers and mode settings
A beverage center with a glass door sweats if the door seal leaks. You will see water beads on the glass or a puddle on the floor. Warm cans on one shelf with cold on the next means poor air flow. Check that cases of drinks are not pressed against the back wall. After that, we test the fan and the sensor.
Undercounter ice makers need clean water, a clear drain and a clean condenser. Small, cloudy or no ice often traces to scale on the parts that freeze the water. A blocked drain makes the bin flood or the ice melt into a lump. A failed water valve stops ice fully. If yours is outdoors, tell us. Sun and heat around the cabinet change what we look for.
Sub-Zero units have a showroom mode. The lights work but the cooling is off. If a new or just-moved unit is warm, check for that first. There is also a Sabbath mode that changes how lights and controls act. Your use and care guide shows how to turn each one off. If neither is on and the grille is clean, the unit needs a tech.
Price of a visit
We keep the money side plain. Diagnosing an undercounter Sub-Zero at home is $79. Go ahead with the drawer or ice maker repair and that $79 comes off. The set figure comes up front, and parts and labor are both in it. A+ works as an independent repair company. The family that started it runs it still. Drawer techs hold a license and insurance and clear a background screen. Booking online takes a minute, and same-day undercounter visits are common.
Repair or replace a small Sub-Zero
These are not cheap bar fridges. They were bought to fit a cutout and match a panel. Slides, gaskets, fans, valves and sensors are all worth fixing. A sealed system fault on an old undercounter unit is a closer call. We will price the job and give you a straight answer.
Where we service undercounter units
We see these units in kitchens, bars and patios around Houston. Our Texas service area page has the towns. Drawer and ice maker jobs also take us to Los Angeles, Northern Virginia, Chicago and D.C. See the Sub-Zero brand page for more. One last tip for drawer owners. Do not store tall bottles standing up in the top drawer if they touch the ceiling. They block the air slot and warm the whole drawer.
