SKS fridge types and how they differ
SKS sells cold storage in a few forms. Column fridges stand alone with no freezer inside. The built-in French door fridge comes 36 or 48 inches wide. It has a middle drawer with five presets, from wine chill down to full freezer. It also runs two compressors. There are 24 inch wine columns, which hold a steady cool with low shake. And there are undercounter drawers that switch between fridge and freezer. This SKS page sticks to the fresh food side. For frozen food columns, see SKS freezer repair.
A fridge section that runs warm
A fridge has to hold the high thirties. That is a small window. A few degrees up and milk turns early. In a column, we test the evaporator fan first. It sits behind the rear panel and pushes cold air out. No fan means no cold air on the shelves. Then we check the coil for ice. A coil locked in ice blocks the air even when the fan runs. That points to a defrost fault. We also look at the condenser at the base. Built-in units pull air through the toe grille. Dust there makes the fridge run long and warm.
The middle drawer on French door models
That middle drawer is handy, and it is one more system to fail. It has its own sensor and an air damper that opens and shuts. If the drawer freezes your produce, the damper may be stuck open. If it will not get cold enough in freezer mode, the damper may be stuck shut or the sensor may be off. Check the preset first. A guest may have changed it. With two compressors, one side of the fridge can fail while the other stays cold. Tell us which part is warm.
Water where it should not be
Water under the crisper bins comes from a blocked defrost drain. The drain freezes, and the melt water backs up onto the floor of the fridge. We thaw it and clear the tube. Water on the kitchen floor usually traces to the SKS supply line or its inlet valve. On models with a water dispenser, a slow drip at the spout points at the valve as well.
Wine column concerns
Wine columns run warmer than a fridge, in the fifties. Their faults are quieter. You may see the set point drift or the glass door sweat. A humming noise that was not there before may be a fan. Light and heat both hurt wine. If the door will not seal, fix it soon.
Checks an owner can make
- Feel the door gasket all the way around for a gap.
- Make sure shelves and bins are seated so the door can close.
- Vacuum the toe grille.
- Open the ThinQ app. SKS has a feature called ThinQ Care that can flag a fault early.
- Note which zone is warm and what it is set to.
Pricing, hours and the case for repair
An SKS fridge diagnostic costs $79 at a home. We waive it with an approved repair. We give you one fixed SKS fridge price, labor and parts counted, ahead of any work. A warm fridge is urgent, so we aim for same-day service. SKS fridge slots begin at 6 AM, and the last fridge slot is 9 PM, seven days. The SKS fridge tech has passed a background check and is licensed and insured. A+ is an independent shop, and each repair has a 30-day repair warranty. These fridges are young and built into the wall. Fans, sensors, dampers, valves and gaskets are clear repairs. Only a major sealed system fault on a unit past factory coverage makes replacing worth a look. We serve Houston, per the Texas page. Chicago and Los Angeles SKS fridge owners can book too. We also send SKS fridge techs to Northern Virginia and D.C. More at the Signature Kitchen Suite repair page and general refrigerator repair. On a panel-ready SKS fridge, a door that drifts open is often a hinge that needs a turn, not a bad gasket.
