Many LG fridges use an Inverter Linear Compressor. It changes speed to match the load. A drive board tells it how fast to run.
Cold air is then moved by fans. One sits in the freezer by the coil. One cools the compressor area. Models with Craft Ice or a door ice maker have a fan for the ice room too. When one fan stops, LG boards often show a code.
LG explains these on its support pages.
For Er FF, LG says to unplug the fridge and leave the doors open for a full day to melt the ice. That can clear it for a while. If the code comes back, the defrost system has a failed part, and the ice will return.
This is a frost and air flow fault. The coil behind the freezer wall ices over. Air cannot pass. We test the defrost heater, the sensor and the board. We also check the damper that lets cold air into the fresh food side. A stuck damper starves the top section.
Now we look at the compressor side. We check the condenser fan and clean the coil. We listen to the linear compressor. We test the drive board that runs it. If the compressor itself has failed, that is a sealed system job. We will quote it and talk through the age of the fridge.
LG fridges can have more than one ice maker. Craft Ice models make slow-melting round ice in the freezer. The door or upper ice maker makes cubes.
A frozen fill tube stops ice. So does a bad water valve. An ice room that gets warm will melt and refreeze the ice into a lump. We check the ice fan and the door seal on the ice room. Water in the crisper means the defrost drain is clogged.
The InstaView panel lights when you knock twice. If it stays dark, the knock sensor or its board may have failed. Door-in-Door models have an extra gasket on the outer door. A gap there lets warm air in and makes the fridge sweat. We check both seals.
LG has a Smart Diagnosis tool in its app. If you ran it, tell us what it said. It helps us bring the right part.
