Hestan built-in wall ovens

Hestan offers a 30 inch single wall oven and a 30 inch double. Both are electric and sit inside a cabinet. A touch control display sets the mode, and backlit knobs sit beside it. There are 11 modes. Along with bake and broil, you get Pizza, Dehydrate, Proof and Clean. Each oven comes with two telescopic racks and a meat probe.

The heating elements are hidden. Bake, broil and convection elements all sit behind panels, which makes the inside easy to wipe. It also means you cannot see a burned element. Testing is the only way to know. Wall ovens are one of several products on our Hestan appliance repair page.

Uneven baking and the TwinVection fans

TwinVection means two convection fans share the work. They move air across the oven to balance the heat. If one motor fails, half the oven goes short on air. Cookies on the left brown while the right tray stays pale. You may also hear a scrape or a hum before a motor quits.

We pull the back panel inside the oven and test both motors. We also check the convection element near them. If only bake mode is off and convection is fine, the hidden bake element is the likely fault.

No heat in one oven of a double

With a double oven, each cavity has its own elements and sensor. They share power and control boards. When the upper oven works and the lower does not, we look at the relay board first. A relay can burn out and stop sending power to one cavity. A failed sensor in that cavity is the next check.

If both ovens are dead but the display is on, check the breaker. Wall ovens run on 240 volts. With half the supply lost, the lights and screen still work. The elements do not.

Touch display and control faults

A screen that ignores your finger is a common complaint on any touch oven. Try cleaning the glass with a soft dry cloth first. If it still misreads, the touch panel or the board behind it is failing. Heat is the enemy here. A cooling fan protects the controls while the oven runs. If that fan stops, the oven may shut down mid bake to save itself. We test the fan whenever we see a control fault.

Door that stays locked or will not close right

The Clean mode locks the door and heats the oven far past cooking heat. If the door stays locked once the Hestan cools, its lock motor or lock switch is stuck. Please do not force it. We can free the door without harm to the latch.

Hestan doors are soft-close. A hinge pulls the door shut the last inch. When a hinge wears, the door sags or stops short. Heat then escapes at the top edge, and the cabinet above gets warm.

What to try before calling

• Flip the Hestan's breaker off, count slowly to sixty, then flip it on.
• Check that the meat probe is unplugged when you are not using it.
• Look for a delay or timer setting that holds the start.
• Set an oven thermometer mid rack and read it after 20 minutes.
