Meyerland Homes Along Brays Bayou
George Meyer turned 1,200 acres of rice fields into Meyerland in 1955. It was one of the first deed restricted areas in Houston. Houses near Godwin Park are mostly 1950s and 1960s ranch homes. Part of Meyerland sits in the flood plain, and it flooded in 2015 and 2017.
Many homes have been raised or rebuilt since then, and new ones sit several feet higher. Flood recovery often means new appliances installed in a hurry. We check that new units are level, vented and hooked up right. We also keep older machines running in homes that stayed dry. Meyerland Plaza opened here in 1957.
