The Roselle fridge that will not make ice
No ice is usually a frozen fill tube, a clogged water filter or an inlet valve that has stopped opening. If the tray fills and never dumps, the ice maker motor has failed. We also see leaks in Roselle kitchens from a blocked defrost drain, and hardened door gaskets that let warm air in so the compressor never rests. Roselle grew 245 percent between 1960 and 1970, and much of that postwar single-family housing has been through two or three refrigerators on the same water line, so the line itself is sometimes the leak. A Roselle kitchen from the 1960s was built around a fridge much smaller than today's. Each new refrigerator since has been pushed into that same cutout, with the cabinet tight above it. A fridge with no room to breathe runs hot. The coils clog, the fan strains, and the box goes warm. A French door or side-by-side in that spot is the worst case, since it needs the most air.
We pull it out, clean the coils, and fix the fan or the ice maker. Then it goes back in the same cutout.
